Unlike the average car driver, motorbike riders have an intimate relationship with their tires, and fully understand the need to fit the right tire for your riding style and intended use. Sometimes lasting less than 2,000 miles, the right tire can literally mean the difference between a safe ride home in the wet, or a nasty highside resulting in a damaged bike, and potentially worse, a damaged body.

Following on from the 255/40 R19 tire test, the Russian magazine Auto Review have tested 16 tires in the far more common 205/55 R16. The twist this year is the inclusion of what Auto Review call "second line tires", which are mid range brands which are manufactured by the premium brands.

444bhp Mustang Boss 302 might not be the last word in car dynamics, but it's what the Russian magazine Auto Review have chosen to use for their 2014 Max Performance tire test. Wearing massive 255/40 R19 front tires, and 285/35 R19 rears, this was never going to be an "ordinary" tire test, and the inclusion of a drifting test only highlighted the testers were out to have fun driving while getting their data.

Thanks to recent harsh winters, the best tire for the UK roads is a hot topic, and with 2013 predicted to be the harshest winter of recent times, now is the time to be swapping tires.

UK winter tires need a different blend of abilities to northern Europe winter tires, with priority being placed on cold wet driving, rather than all out snow and ice grip. We have no need for nordic “full winters”, or studded tires, and on balance they’d perform worse in our climate.

Michelin Alpin A4 After testing 50 different winter tires in wet and snow braking tests, Auto Bild have taken the top 15 performers through to a final shootout. In this super test, they've examined 16 aspects of the tires performance, including all aspects of their snow performance, wet and dry capabilities and various other tests, such as wear and rolling resistance in 195/65 R15 on a VW Golf.

With the line between all season and winter tires becoming increasingly blurred, its good that one magazine places all three tires of tires in the same test.

This years Auto Bild all season tire test includes a summer, a winter, and the nine newest all season tires, and tests them on dry, wet and snowy roads. Using a 195/65 R15 H tire size, the tires were tested on the now de facto tire test car, the Golf 7.
