Federal SS595 SUPER STEEL Reviews - Page 8

Given 80% while driving a Audi A4 2.5tdi Quattro Avant Sport (225/45 R17) on a combination of roads for 40,000 average miles
I have been using SS595 on my quattro for three seasons about 40 000 miles. Great Wear rate. It is good on dry condition, but not so good in wet.
Because of great noise isolation in Audi I wouldn't say those tires are that much noisy.
Would buy again.
In winter I use Bridgestone Blizak LM32 winter tires. Perfect.
In conclusion - great price/quality ratio.

Given 51% while driving a Vauxhall Vectra SRI 1.9 (150) (215/50 R17 W) on a combination of roads for 15,000 average miles
The best thing I can say about these tires is they appear to last for ever, just to annoy me!! Had them on the rear of my Vectra for 15000miles and they've still got about 6mm on them. Really don't like these tires at all, they are very noisy (drone) and send every hole in the road right through the car. They seam to grip OK in the dry but I have lost the back more than once in the wet. If I could I would give a minus on 'buy again' as I am replacing them next week with 6mm still on then and saving them for a spare.

Given 52% while driving a Nissan Primera (205/50 R16) on a combination of roads for 1,000 spirited miles
Terrible tires, this is the second car I've had with them on and I hate them. I previously had a Corsa SRi and they were terrible in the wet but now on the Primera they are making a horrible droning noise at random speeds, they don't seem to wear down though which is leading me to believe they are made out of plastic and not rubber.

Avoid at all costs, go for Kumho/Toyo T1R if you want cheap tires.

Can't wait to get these tires off!!

Given 80% while driving a Hyundai i30 1.6 petrol Premium (225/45 R17) on a combination of roads for 3,000 average miles
I've had these tires before on my 194Bhp Grande Punto turbo-diesel with 263 ft lbs of torque, no problem with the Federals on that so I bought them with confidence for my Hyundai i30, & I have not been disappointed (or scared) To be honest I have no idea why some-one with an expensive to insure, high performance car, would buy budget tires?
For a normal car with a normal driver these tires are fine. Not noisy, not slippery, not un-trustworthy... in fact they are just average.. which is good for a budget tire surely? 225 / 45 / 17's £72 a corner.

Winner!

Given 29% while driving a Skoda Fabia 1.9TDi (205/45 R16 W) on a combination of roads for 5,000 average miles
Absolutely horrid tires. Poor grip in the wet and noisy beyond belief. As per other reviews on here they make this awful droning noise between certain speeds and the same when slowing down. These came on my Fabia VRS and were quickly replaced with Toyo T1-Rs after some very scary moments at low speeds in the wet.

Given 51% while driving a Ford Mondeo (235/40 R18) on a combination of roads for 20,000 spirited miles
So so dangererous on any bit of wet! Never again. These are not a safe tire.
Contis will be purchased next time. Fuel efficiency down by 3-4 mpgs as well. Noise is terrible except on new asphalt!! Have gone sideways doing 20mph in the wet with these on!

Given 72% while driving a Alfa Romeo GT 1.9 JTD (145/55 R17) on mostly country roads for 3,000 average miles
Okay so these were a bit of a gamble, but the Toyo Proxes I have been using just wear out too quickly (12K - 14K Miles) and a puncture on new year's day meant I needed a quick and cheaper solution.

They are good tires! The wet grip isn't quite as good as the Toyos', but not by much, and the general handling and feel of them is fine. Road noise is a little different but not intrusive. Wear seems to be even although I haven't done many miles on them.

Definitely worth a try.

Given 74% while driving a Lincoln mark viii (255/40 R17) on a combination of roads for 30,000 spirited miles
I had theses on my 95 ford tbird I put these on and I was keeping up with my buddy in his tbird that had lowering springs, thicker sway bars, and the same size tire different brand....I do a lot of mountain driving....I had then switched the rims over to my mark viii and my god I felt the difference when you put these tires on a car with better susspension....great dry traction never had traction issues unless I meant to....great tire for drag racing too heat them off and u get off the line no problem....anything 245/45/17 and bigger for these tires id reccommend to all my friends that want great handling tires......

Given 51% while driving a Nissan 300ZX (225/50 R16) on a combination of roads for 5,000 spirited miles
Poor to average grip in the dry. After a little warm up they could handle relatively heavy driving, though it was still easy to spin the rear up if too enthusiastic.
They're just a menace in the wet. Half throttle at low revs would get the rear spinning and fishtailing.
They feel like they're made of wood, which probably explains the long life and the lack of grip. Incorrectly marketed as a performance tire. As a long-life commuter tire, they'd be fine. As a performance tire, they're rubbish.

Given 51% while driving a BMW 330 d sport auto (225/45 R17) on a combination of roads for 17 average miles
You usually get what you pay for after saying this had these on my BMW 330D Auto for 26 months 17067 miles traveled wear quite good. Still a 4-5 mm tread left. As a BUDGET tire I repeat Budget tire well satisfied After saying this next time I will be changing to uniroyal wet 2 purely for the noise which a lot quieter according to right ups.But if money is tight which it is nowadays dont hesitate to get federal ss 595 purely for wear alone. All the best if this info helps you in your purchase Don

Given 21% while driving a Ford Mondeo ST220 (225/40 R17 W) on a combination of roads for 4,000 average miles
These tires are dangerous in the weton the front of my car. My st220 feels like its on an icerink. With my cars sensitive geometry the ride using these tires is almost unbearable....feels the bumps right through the car and like my engine is about to fall off its mount. Guess after the winter im gonna spend some money and get some Michelin Pilot Sport3 ps3 or GoofYear Eagle F1 Asymetric. I have Pirelli P Zero Rosso on the rear after i had to switch them from the front and they are not bad tires...

Given 57% while driving a Vauxhall Corsa (225/45 R17) on a combination of roads for 1,000 spirited miles
I drive a 1.4 Corsa SRi, which isnt an altogether powerful car (90bhp), however I do like to drive 'spirited' sometimes, especially when cornering around a private estate.
The Federal SS595 were fitted new to the car by Vauxhall when I bought it last November.
I liked the look of them as the tires are slightly wider then the alloy wheel, and they have a 'rim protector' edge to them.
Driving in the dry the tires seemed ok. When cornering there was alot of rumbling and the tires soon lost grip.
However, in the wet, they were just scary. I used to have a 1.3 Fiesta which I just had cheapo tires fitted that would go round a roundabout near my home in the wet ok. However, with my Corsa, and the SS595's fitted, it just slid all over the place.
I think these tires are dangerous in the wet and would not reccomend them. Within a month I forked out for Toyo Proxes T1-R all round and they are massively better in every respect.
