Hankook Dynapro HPX and Bridgestone Dueler A/T Ascent Launched

Today sees the launch of not one, but two new SUV all terrain, all-wheel-drive tires. Hankook has introduced the Dynapro HPX, while Bridgestone has launched the Dueler A/T Ascent and while they're both in similar segments, they're actually quite different products.

Hankook Dynapro HPX

The Dynapro HPX is Hankook's latest summer tire for SUVs and all-wheel-drive vehicles. Available in sizes ranging from 16 to 19 inches, this tire focuses on on-road performance with improved wet handling. Its tread design incorporates new 3D GripControl sipes for enhanced grip. Compared to its predecessor, the Dynapro HPX boasts a 15% reduction in braking distance and a 7% improvement in handling on wet surfaces.

Comfort hasn't been overlooked, with Hankook implementing knurling technology in the grooves to reduce rolling noise. The Dynapro HPX has been available in retailers since June 2024, offering SUV owners a new option for summer driving and is available in Europe and North America.

Bridgestone Dueler A/T Ascent

AT Ascent

Bridgestone's new all-terrain tire, the Dueler A/T Ascent, is designed for luxury and high-trim 4x4 trucks and SUVs. It covers a size range from 17 to 22 inches, with 35 available fitments. This tire marks a milestone for Bridgestone as their first all-terrain tire featuring the company's ENLITEN technology.

The Dueler A/T Ascent's tread design incorporates full-depth, interlocking 3D sipes for improved traction in wet conditions, snow, and off-road terrain. Its winter performance credentials are bolstered by a 3-Peak Mountain Snowflake certification. Durability is a key feature, with Bridgestone backing the tire with a 60,000-mile limited warranty. The Dueler A/T Ascent is now available for purchase.

We believe the AT Ascent is currently only available in North America.

Comparison and Market Position

While both tires target the SUV market, they cater to different needs. The Dynapro HPX is primarily designed for on-road use with a focus on improved wet performance, whereas the Dueler A/T Ascent offers all-terrain capability with both on- and off-road performance.

In terms of seasonal use, the Dynapro HPX is a summer tire, while the Dueler A/T Ascent is an all-season option with winter certification. The vehicle target also differs slightly, with the Dynapro HPX aimed at general SUVs and AWD vehicles, and the Dueler A/T Ascent specifically targeting luxury and high-trim 4x4 trucks and SUVs.

Both tires incorporate noise reduction technologies and focus on providing comfort alongside performance, reflecting the evolving demands of the SUV market. The Dynapro HPX uses knurling technology in its grooves, while the Dueler A/T Ascent employs tread pattern optimization to reduce noise.

As always, the best choice between these two new offerings will depend on the specific needs of the vehicle owner, including driving conditions, vehicle type, and personal preferences. The Dynapro HPX may be more suitable for drivers who primarily stick to paved roads and want excellent wet performance, while the Dueler A/T Ascent could be the better choice for those who frequently venture off-road or live in areas with harsh winters.
