My construction business bought a 2nd hand Nissan NP200 open back van a few years back. It came with Nissan SOUTH AFRICA factory fitted Barum Brilliantis with aprox 30K kilometers on. Not long after we popped a rear tire on a trip out of town under load, heat, age, etc. I read on the tire wall that it is not a commercially graded van tire, rather an 'extra load tire'. I assume this is a glorified passenger tire with some improvements none which qualifies it as a 'LT' (light truck) tire.
I have now purchased a new NP 200, again fitted with the above mentioned tire and after only 2k kilometers it took a thorn in the side wall tire and it is beyond fixing.
I searched online and phoned Tiger Wheel Malibongwe drive asking for a Hankook Vantra LT same as I bought a few years back for our other vans, but they cannot source them. Blairgowrie Lombard tires recommend another sub grad glorified passenger tire; the Goodyear Dura Grip again branded as an extra load tire, but not an LT tire.
I am amazed that I cannot source LT tires in South Africa, looks like I am forced to replace with Barum Brilliantis as the end users do not want to pay or understand the need for a LT tire on their LT trucks/vans (assuming tire manufacturers don't keep stock due to no/low demand)
