General Grabber X3

The new Grabber X3 is a SUV/all-terrain tire for on and off-road use, with a clear emphasis on off-road with an 80/20 off/on-road weighting. To help them meet a demanding set of specifications, General Tire’s development engineers created three new technologies: “Extreme Mud (X Mud)” for maximum traction in deep mud, “Extreme Dirt (X Dirt)” for driving on dirt and gravel, and “Extreme Rock (X Rock)” for tackling rocky terrain. All three rely on a tread pattern that features deep grooves, channels for mud evacuation and staggered edges, which makes for high levels of grip on sand, mud and gravel.

The tire’s unique design has chamfered block edges with wider tread grooves and narrow grooves in the tread base to enable stones to be displaced faster to prevent them from lodging when travelling over gravel.

When driving over rocks, grip edges arranged at different angles in the tire’s tread delivers maximum grip in every direction. A series of deflection ribs protect the sidewalls against damage from stones or gravel, which makes for highly robust performance in tough terrain.

Grabber X3 has a three-ply structure that provides additional strength and puncture resistance. Compared to the tire’s predecessor, its performance on sand and in loose gravel has been improved by five per cent, while performance over rocky terrain by ten per cent. For on-road use the Grabber X3 is better than its predecessor in terms of wet performance and noise, while there is a ten per cent improvement on snow-covered ground.

With an M+S mark and the snowflake symbol to indicate its all-season suitability, the Grabber X3 will be available in 19 different sizes for 15- to 19-inch rims. All sizes of this off-road specialist are approved for speeds of up to 100 mph.

  • This test has proven that mud terrain M/T tires are specialist off-road tires, which have limited ability in the snow. Driving the X3 on snow was a totally different experience to any of the other tires on test.

Given 93% while driving a Land Rover Discovery 2 (265/75 R16) on mostly country roads for 15,000 spirited miles
I purchased a set of Grabber X3s for my Land rover discovery 2 back in 2020 after i was unable to get replacement cooper ST Maxx in this size after watching the Expedition overland videos on Youtube and previous good experiences with grabber tires i thought i would give them ago. 2 Years later they have done 15k miles some off road in the Wales around Salisbury plain and around lots of byways and farms in the UK and they have been amazing great grip off road and surprisingly good grip on road wet and dry while yes it isnt a performance low profile tire it handles very well with some 'excitable' driving. They arent noisy on the road even for mud tires but they offer great comfort over the rough road conditions of Britain they tires Bag a little at the bottom but this makes them alot more comfortable than the previous Cooper ST Maxx that was on there before. Sidewalls are very strong and despite trips around sharp rocky tracks i have never had an issue which is nice living in a flinty area of the UK. Tire wear is good and despite being loaded quite heavily and some very spirited driving they are still averaging between 10-12mm of tread they where 14mm new.
