I used these tires after UG7s (on 2005 Opel Astra 1.3 cdti), which made my life much easier in winter in Ankara (Turkey). I was living in a neighbourhood up on the hills and with steepy, narrow streets in which snow stayed like rock for weeks. UG7 created no problems, I kept moving while other cars stuck or slid back down the hills. That's why I picked Good Year UG9 when I had to buy a set of winter tires for my new car (Volvo c30 1.6 D2). As expected, these were even better than the UG7s. Absolutely no problem in steering on fresh or frozen snow/ice, wet or dry (but icy) roads. The car clutched the surface as if it was summer with summer tires on. More surprisingly, there was almost no change in fuel consumption when compared with Good Year Efficient Grip Performances I used between March and November. Moreover, I managed to avoid some crashes as the car could stop quickly no matter it was snowy or rainy. Another indicator of the overall perfect grip was the sign of the tracking control system which did almost never activate with UG9s on. Unfortunately, I could not find the size (225-45-17) for my new car this winter but still I sticked to Good Years and bought a set of UG Performance Gen 1 which did not have to cope with heavy conditions yet. But anyway, I am confident about the good years.

Best wintertire i have ever used. Previous tires were nokian dr4, pirelli sottozero and michelin a3.
The ultragrip9 is not quite sporty, but so isn´t the car. But grip on snow and ice is beyond belief. A real revelation for me. Was quite good prieced as well.

This is my second winter with these tires. When I bought those I chose between them and Continental TS 850 (the decision factor was the Goodyear having a promotional price that made them a bit cheaper).
So far they are the best winter tires I ever had (previously had nokians) and don't regret the decision.
They are unusually quiet and comfortable for a winter tire, and really good on snow, last year I've managed to get out from a place where a friend of mine got stuck in the snow.
On the dry they could be a bit better, braking is good but on quick start they squeal and it takes a bit to get grip (maybe the Continentals would have been better at that).
Wear is good , not much signs of wear. I would buy them or the next generation again

Fantastic tires, first snow and ice of year and no problems. I was driving up country lanes with snow and ice and the zafira tackled all without any problems. I drove by other motorists stuck by road conditions and the zafira to their surprise chugged uphill without any problems. 10 out of 10. Best money you can spend is on a good set of winter tires.

Just changed the fronts keeping the ultra 8s on the rear had the tires on the car for three years best wearing tires I have had ,OK in the summer great in the rain and cold etc feel the new fronts lower rolling resistance which is good. Ready for a winter this year!

I run a Fiat Qubo and due to my limited ability through ill health to get out and push in winter time, I decided to change to winter tires and researched the Goodyear Ultragrip 9. Deciding it was the best tire for me was a really good call.
I don't drive it too hard but on the occasion I am surprised by a sharp bend on a wet road,I feel no slip whatsoever. Straight line stopping huge improvement and really quiet ride for a tire that is a visibly chunkier tread.

I'll buy these again, unless an Ultragrip 10 is released. :)

Just fitted to car, and straight away quieter and ride seemed smoother. Found great deal £83 per tire fully fitted at tiresaving.com. I have run ultragrip 8 in previous winters and they are fantastic, so I am expecting it9 to perform even better.
