The BEST Performance Winter Tires for 2024 / 2025
4th of 9 tires
  • The Hankook Winter i cept evo3 performed best in dry braking and showed strong performance in deep water aquaplaning.
  • It struggled in snow traction, finishing last among the premium tires.
  • The Hankook Winter i cept evo3 showed some strong points, particularly in dry braking where it led the pack, and in aquaplaning resistance. It also performed well on ice. However, it struggled in snow traction, finishing last among the premium tires in this crucial winter performance aspect. Very uncomfortable tire, the sidewall also looks different than on the website, I sold them after a couple of weeks.

For my style of driving - average, comfort, mixed city+highway is very well balanced. I was looking for well balanced winter tire (best for grip and breaking on wet) and at the end I decided to try new W330 iCept Evo 3 because of good test results on exact tire size I needed. Price was also much better than GY or Michelin and performance pretty close/similar so it was no beainer for me. I can’t comment on wear and fuel consumption but it is slightly higher than with my summer GY UG 9 (which is expected).

Very good tires. What surprised me is just how good the wet grip is under hard acceleration. For the price I've been very satisfied. I don't have any major complaints so far and I can only recommend this tire.

Given 78% while driving a Kia Motors Pro ceed (225/40 R18) on mostly country roads for 21,130 spirited miles
Overall a good tire. It had amazing traction in the dry and good in snow/ice, launch traction in the wet was a bit suboptimal, but once it got going the wet handling was superb. It felt very safe and aquaplanning resistance is the best I've seen from a winter tire thus far. Responsiveness was nice and it was coupled with a sense of stability. Handled nicely and predicatbly even when overtaking on snow covered roads (thorugh a snow median in between tire marks).

When it comes to drawbacks: these wore out faster than I had anticipated. Four winters and 34k km on Eastern European roads killed them. There were harsh use conditions though and a slight rim-damage accident (undiagnosed for a couple of months) could have also impacted their lifespan. The Hankooks are not the quietest or most comfortable, but I don't really care for that in a hot hatch. Nothing negatively outside of the norm in my opinion, but nothing spectacular in this regard either.

Had these on my car last year after doing some research I didn't want to spend £200 on winter tires so bought these... let me tell you you will never look back, we had some snow and a few cars was stuck but not me!! These are amazing in the snow will stick with these every year.. my only advice is change all 4 not just your front as you find you have that good of grip on your front your back end just spins out, this will happen trust me.

Given 90% while driving a Ford Puma (225/40 R19) on a combination of roads for 5,330 average miles
In the summer of 2023, I bought my first performance car (Ford Puma ST Ultimate, 200hp 320Nm). Since I still needed winter tires, I started looking at all Tire Reviews' tests to investigate which seemed to be the best choice for me. I was looking for an all-rounder, one that scored above average in all areas. I live in Belgium, so scoring well in wet conditions was a priority. For me, this tire feels super. Loses practically nothing of its sporty performance, excellent grip when accelerating and cornering.
Due to circumstances, I also drove for a few days in dry and sunny weather (20°C) and even then I was impressed by this tire. I will repurchase this one immediately!

After reviewing Tire Review data I selected the Hankook tires, and it helped the dealership was having a winter sale… $1800CAD including factory rims was a great deal.

It’s been two seasons now with three conditions being dry, then wet, then snow by the number of driving days. On dry roads to ride is comfortable with stable handling and the grip is assured and precise with on ramps, long and medium corners. They lose some composure with sharp turning, and the braking takes a little longer than I’d like. This is probably the least inspiring aspect of all the parameters. Wet performance is very good, with turn and corners being very assured. And the wet braking feels better in the wet than the dry? Not sure how but that’s the way it feels. The best part now… The snow is just a blast with these Hankooks. Very grippy whether braking, accelerating or turning the vehicle; this tire does it all in the snow.

After just under 10,000 km the tread looks unused, with more than 7mm across each tire.

Been running hankook winter ipike for over 10 years. Short summer seasons in Wyoming and there is no reason to change to a summer tire. Great value and an awesome tire. Never any punctures or other road hazard repairs. Ipike grip like claws in the snow. Tried the icept tire on my lexus 460 as ipike do not come in my size. Usual hankook quality. Awesome traction in wet snow or ice. Very stable in the snow. Love them and can't beat the price. Under $600 for 4 tires.

Much better than my old Conti or Bridgestone. Haven’t tried them in snow yet, but they are extremely good value. Some complain about comfort on these, but this is a winter tire, and as such it is way better than ant other I have tried!
