Ford Transit Connect Tire Review Highlights

I absolutely love these tires, I’ve always had summer budgets/mid ranges on the van and have been caught in snow a few times in winter and nearly come a cropper, let me tell you I will never go back to budget/mid range summer tires ever again! these are so much more refined, comfortable and by Jove they’re grippy plus my mpg has gone from 61.7 to 65!

top marks to continental I am one happy customer.

Rubbish they have perished...big ridge around the tire air coming out. And whoever thought of putting white rubber under the black? It rubs off and leaves them looking awful. I would never buy again

Driving on a combination of roads for 70000 average miles
I got roughly about 16,000 miles on a 70,000 mile tire and it’s pretty much on the tread bar. I have to say they’re the worst tire I’ve ever owned on any of my work vehicles or personal vehicles. I’m very surprised because at the time when I was shopping for tires these were one of the most highly rated tires for my vehicle, and have been a big big disappointment would highly suggest to look elsewhere, a big waste of money, and a huge disappointment!!!

Writing about the Nokian WR A4 given 91% (245-45-19-)

This is my 2 week review of a set of the Nokian G4's tires installed on our 2020 Ford Transit Connect by Discount Tire. Again my other reviews shows that at least 5 different brand tires will not work with the Transit Connect as those tires listed in my other reviews will not work on the van. The issue is those other tires have too much sidewall flex. The Nokian G4's are made with a Kevlar derivative which stiffens the sides and the design of the tires, but the tires are not runflats. This past weekend we actually had a chance to drive in the snow and on icy roads in Boone/Banner Elk NC while on our way to Asheville. NC. These Nokian G4's 245/40/r19 are the best tires we've even had the privilege of owning. They can handle a wide range of road conditions and still keep on going. All types of weather and climates do not stand a chance with these tires. We're very pleased with the Nokians G4's we're glad we gave the Nokian brand another chance after the Nokian "One" tires failed to impress us. Again, This is a review for the Nokian WR G4 245/40/R19 tires on a 2020 Transit Connect so your results may very. But clearly this IS the best tire for our van's setup.

This makes our second attempt with the Nokian tire brand. Although the first Nokian One 245/40/R19 performed very well, it was poor on wet roads and other aspects. We were willing to give the Nokian brand one more chance and this time we selected the Nokian WRG4's. One thing we noticed about these tires as compared to the Nokian one tires, is that they are lighter than the one tires even though the site list these as being heavier. The other thing about these tires is that no matter what the road conditions, these tires will find a way to keep you driving. Superior dry grp and handling without over flexing side walls with very well wet road handling on our Transit Connect. With a Kevlar derivative designed into the tires, these sidewall still flex, just not as much as some of the other tires we've tested. Although these WRG4's are not runflats, they make up for it with the stiffer sidewalls that will help protect your tire for years to come. One test we performed right after the mounted and balanced on our 19x8.5 wheels, was to drive around a circle (round about) just to see what type of handling we're dealing with. 6 times we went around the circle/round about in dry and wet road conditions without any slipping or sliding. Another instance, while driving over the painted stripes in the road, the Nitto & Kumho tires would flow over and slide, the Van would get squirrely and would not handle very well. While the Nokian WRG4's kept right on gripping over these painted single or double lines. We gave the Nokian tire brand a second chance and this time, it has paid off and so far these tires have proven themselves in a variety of conditions. So yes the perfect tire for our 2020 Transit Connect is the well designed and one of the best handling tires we've ever tested.

Writing about the Kumho Solus TA71 given 37% (245-40-19-)
Driving on mostly country roads for 0 average miles
This is my second review of these Kumho Solus Tires and the longer we drive on these tires the worse it gets, just yesterday, we rounded a curve and the front end again locked up putting the front end in a short slide. We're driving at regular speeds and now the tires aren't holding up on dry pavement. I've posted pics online and sent word to Kumho about these tires, they are over flexing. meaning the sidewalls will not withstand the vans weight even though these tires are listed as being suited for the van at 98 Load rated. The sidewalls on these tires need to be strengthened more. I've since reported this issue to several tire manufactures and asked for suggestions on tires with stiffer sidewalls with the same or higher load rating. 8 times by 8 different manufactures told me I need to try run flats. But We're taking another shot at the Nokian brand of tires as the WR G4's have been known to withstand sidewall flex and superior handing in wet weather. Cross our fingers and hope the Nokian tires will work on the van. if not, we'll have to step up and buy some run flats. Lastly, these Kumho Solus tires are handling just like the Nitto Motivo tires we had on the van 6 months ago as those slid all over the road also while mounted on the Transit Connect. Avoid these types of tires on a Transit Connect, The longer you drive on them the worse it will get, very unsafe tires for sure.

Driving on mostly motorways for 0 average miles
This was a big mistake made 2 years ago while searching for tires for our transit Connect. Although the wheels worked out or are "ok" the tires mounted on these were not. CariD worked up this and botched the deal. These 215/50/17 tires are dangerous on the Transit Connect. flexing sidewalls made the van unstable and very dangerous driving. The van would slide through curves as the tires always looked flat or near flat while mounted on the 17'' wheels. Avoid these with a passion. Even the Nitto site has removed these tires as an option for the Transit Connect.

Writing about the Nokian One given 62% (245-40-19-)
Driving on mostly motorways for 0 average miles
Still searching for that perfect tire, we opted for a set of the Nokian One tires on our van. These tires are larger than normal and heavier than normal. But the dry contact was superior. We thought Nokian was known for the superior wet traction which wasn't the case while mounted on our Transit Connect. These tires handled very well on dry roads, but the van felt sluggish and heavy. But when it started raining all bet were off. these tires tend to slide into corners But not as hard as other tires we've tried. However, there's still hope that the Nokian brand will suit our van as we've turned out attention towards the Nokian WR g4 tires as these are known to have far superior wet traction. These WR G4's will be installed in a few weeks and I'll report back then. otherwise, if you're looking for a very good, slightly stiff sidewall tire for summer us, these are your tires.

We've been having a hard time locating the prefect tire for our setup. The tire shop suggested the Kumho brand of tires and I actually felt pressured into buying a set. But after only 1 week of driving on dry and wet roads, These Kumho tires failed to impress us. The main disappointment was the wet traction or the lack there of. These tires slide everywhere. This because apparent while avoiding traffic when the front end locked up and the van slide off the road. Pictures show that when the wheels are straight the tires perform very wheel. but make a sharp turn the tires flop under the wheels almost allowing the rim edge to touch the pavement. This is the second worse tires we've even had a chance to mount on our van. Mind you I can't vouch for how these tires will handle on your car or truck, so avoid the Kumho Solus Tires on the Transit Connect.

Writing about the Nokian Hakka Green given 63% (205-60-16-)
Driving on mostly town for 1400 average miles
Good grip in all conditions. Saves fuel. Probably tread will last for some while. Bought it for a Ford Transit Connect Van -14. Carcass of the tire seems weak: beware curbs and potholes. When even half loaded becomes unstable wants to be compensated with tire pressure and then tire becoming just too hard to drive. Had it for two weeks and had to return to the supplier. Also its annoyingly noisy. Hakka Green 3 in this size is just a bad product, would not recommend.
