MG ZR Tire Review Highlights

Writing about the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3 given 64% (205-45-17-V)
Driving on mostly country roads for 100 spirited miles
Replaced a set of Continental Sport Contact 2.

Pro's:
-Very quiet
-Lighter steering
-Comfortable
-Good wet and dry grip

Con's:
-Slow steering response, car doesn't feel as sharp
-Steering feedback is very poor

Good tires for long distance cruisers and grocery getters, but dont fit these tires to a sports car or if you like spirited driving, you will be dissapointed.

Driving on a combination of roads for 100 spirited miles
Bought these tires a few weeks back, going against reading the bad reviews on this very website as I thought "how bad can they be?, they must be eu approved". Well how EXTREMELY wrong I was.

I had driven no less then 20 miles on these tires fitted to the rear of my vehicle. Gripped fine in the dry, absolutely fine. As soon as there was rain it was like driving on ice.

One day I was coming home from work, took a corner I have took multiple times over the last few years before at my usual speed in wet conditions. These tires gave way, shot my rear end into a mad sliding frenzy, snapped back and shot my car the total wrong way. I ended up hitting a 2ft barrier, on the wrong side of the road. My car was a total write off, front end fully smashed in. I am extremely angry but I have no one to blame but myself for ignoring advice. These tires are NOT safe at all.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do not buy or fit these death traps to any vehicle, especially with children, luckily I was okay. Shame about my car. I have pictures of my vehicle and these tires fitted to the rear should anyone want to see what these tires do. NEVER AGAIN.

email me at k.bowler1@ntlworld.com should you wish to see. Thanks

Driving on mostly country roads for 2500 spirited miles
Really very impressed with these tires. I get through a great many tires and all three of my vehicles have different boots on them. They will all be having these very soon. The ZR has these all round and it creates a joyous drive. Have previously had kuhmo ku39's and falken ze914 on the ZR as well as awful budget tires when i purchased it and these out perform all. Wet grip is frankly outstanding, they suffer from no tramlining and have a very stable ride. They do have a hint of hesitation on turn in which i have put down the the softness of the tire. One must be sure to regularly check the pressures for these as they appear to be very susceptable to excessive wear through overpressure. through testing i have found that they heat up quicker than most other tires on the marked therefore run at a higher pressure in use leading to increased wearing over the central 3/4 of the tire. So in the warmer months consider droping them by a couple of psi.

i dive like a hooligan and after 2500 miles the fronts are showing 6mm, i am happy with this.

Happy driving all.

Driving on mostly country roads for 6000 easy going miles
A standard quality budget tire. But other budget tires I have used in the past have much better wear and I got only 6000 miles driving before they were on the legal limit and needed changing. I would only buy these tires if you intend to sell the car in the short term or you are a very low milage driver

Driving on mostly motorways for 250 average miles
Pretty average in terms of handling, however that's to be expected of a cheap tire. What I didn't expect is all 4 sidewalls to crack excessively and have one blow out on me, replaced all 4 as soon as I limped home on the space saver. Luckily I didn't waste my money buying these as they were on the car DO NOT BUY!!

Driving on mostly country roads for 14000 spirited miles
Garage fitted these to the car as part of deal and i get the feeling they didnt like me very much, as it would appear they have tried to kill me. The grip in the wet is zero, nothing, spins well into third. And to make it worse my car dosent have any power so to speak, its only a zr 1.8 like a "warm hatch". Put it into a very subtle bend and it just suffers from catastrophic understeer. Plays havoc with the abs under braking also. Buy these tires only if you want a free hot cup of death to go with them. Dangerous! Going back to continental superior on every count.

Brilliant tires, can wheelspin a bit too easy in the wet

Driving on a combination of roads for 12 spirited miles
Got four of these tires put on the car when it got put back on the road a year ago and they have been pretty solid up until now as the nearside front is starting to get a bit low, but still well within the legal limit. The wear on the front is a tad uneven but that I would put down to my liking of dumping the clutch outside the house, but even with that as said above the tread is still well within the limit, they have done a large combination of roads everything from motorways to single track without complaint. The grip in the dry is good and they have never broken free of their own accord, in the wet until recently they where great in the wet too but due to wear standing water is starting to freak me a wee bit with under steer starting to pop up right handers from time to time (standing water on roundabouts is great fun now....) The comfort is pretty good since they are 55's but due to this they look like they are soft all the time. I will probably buy them again in a lower profile, decent tires.

Got a set of these and ran them over the course of about 12K before the fronts were on the limits, this was only on a 1.4 MG ZR, so nothing stupidly powerful that will chew them up.
Dry grip is acceptable but wet leaves something to be desired once they hit around 3mm. Feedback is good when on the limit, and no tendancy to snap off into oversteer when going a bit quick round some corners.

An OK tire for the price, but don't be fooled into thinking these are anywhere near as good as their Ultra-High Performance counterparts. Running Goodyear Eagle F1A2s at the moment, and they're infinitely better in the wet and their wear rates look a lot better too.

these are great i have a very tuned car at 210 bhp going through the front wheels and had many different tires before i tried these and these are by far the best i take the car to track days and the grip is fantastic and great feedback i also use the car as my daily driver and my driving is by no means slow have ordered my next pair of zz3 now.
only drawback is they only last me 6000 miles but i do push it and they are loud but a small price to pay for safety.
