Renault Captur Tire Review Highlights

Writing about the Continental EcoContact 6 given 60% (215-60-17-)

These tires were original fitment on my Captur II and I have driven aprox 1500 km with them. + They are stable and grippy on dry pavement. Feels secure. + Low rolling resistance - good for the fuel economy. + Quite comfortable, not so nosy. But the big disadvantage is their performance in the wet. They felt very good when new, but now on my 2nd year (I have winter tires so I don’t use the Conti’s in the winter) they have lost grip in the wet. They are not so resistance to aquaplaning, they starts to float and loose their grip far to easily when it’s raining. This is of major concern for me and because of this I give a low rating for wet and wear. They don’t feel secure in the wet. They have lost too much of the wet performance even if the thread still looks good. I drive in town, on countryroads and motorways. My longer journeys are mostly on 80 - 110 km/h roads. Mostly 100 km/h. I’m an easy going driver and I respect speed limits. When it’s time to replace them, I will look at other tires.

Brand new car with brand new tires. A little to early to be optimistic or critical, will check back next year.

Got these tires via asda tires and for the price I can't fault them. Early days but so far so good. Much better contact on the road as the 4 Michelin I replaced were almost illegal.

I fitted these tires to my wifes Renault Captur having previously run the first gen CrossClimates on a BMW 320d. The confidence it gave to driving in winter on the BMW has now passed over to the Renault. The main reason for fitting them to the Renault was the poor winter performance of the original Primacy 3 during colder months. The car would scrabble for grip when moving off. I put this down to the petrol Renault being very light over the front wheels and hardening of the summer tire rubber. It did not give me confidence about the car in poor weather. The Crossclimates have eliminated this problem completely. The car had limited use during the recent snowy spell but coped with a 200 mile round trip mostly on gritted roads but including snow covered side roads without a problem. I would say in an area with extreme winter weather the tires probably wouldn't work as well as a true winter tire but for the UK I think they are perfect and the bonus is they don't have to be swapped for summer.

It's the quietest tire I've seen ever. No noise at all! Much more better than previous continental tires. Very good grip in dry and wet conditions. But it's not so shiny black. Very comfortable. Traction is very good.
