Tesla Model S Tire Review Highlights

Writing about the Bridgestone Turanza EV given 74% (245-45-19-)
Driving on mostly country roads for 800 spirited miles
Very quiet, soft and comfortable ride, seems to handle very well over the first 800 miles. I am shocked that they are so inefficient however. My 2018 AWD Model S has averaged 266Wh/mile for the first 3 sets of tires over 90,000 miles. So far the Turanza EV is averaging 281Wh/mile, a loss of range of about 11%. The only way they can make up for that loss is to last longer than the 30,000 miles the previous tires have lasted. I hope they do.

Driving on mostly country roads for 9700 easy going miles
I previously had the Goodyear Asymmetric 5 and they lasted 62000km (38500 mi). The Asymmetric 6 lasted less than 16000 km (10000 mi) and in fact they had been done for at least 3000 km since when I was going to rotate the tires when I saw they were completely flat, I was surprised such a short life; the front ones were a little bit better but almost done as well. Maybe it's a quality problem but I took the car to the same shop and had installed the previous version, the Asymmetric 5. I hope they perform equally as the ones I had 3 years before. I drive very very smoothly and gently and my driving style hasn't changed. I wouldn't buy them again and I wouln't recommed them to anybody eventhough the tire is silent and the grip is great.

Driving on mostly country roads for 5000 spirited miles
After the preliminary review (200 miles - Tesla Model S, 11 Aug 2023) I thought I'd come back with extra thoughts several thousand miles in:

- The efficiency gains is accurate, these helped me get some of the lowest Wh/mile I've achieved in my Model S covering quite some miles in France over the summer, and then over the autumn. I've had my MS for 130k miles so have a good feel on what is achievable, and they did very well.
- They are definitely more refined from a noise perspective.

However - I do drive "enthusiastically" and having driven them a lot more now I can state confidently that these tires are greasier than the PS5s I had before. They are progressive in their loss of grip, so you have good feeling and there's not a moment of surprise where you suddenly lose your back-end, which obviously is a positive, and therefore I was not uncomfortable driving these, but in dry cornering they just don't hold up as well as I would want, and you feel the car sliding a little.

My wife also has a Model S with these tires on. She is not an aggressive driver but she also noticed that they are greasier too.

I've since sold my MS and have a X. When the summer tires on that need replacing I am very unlikely to buy these again (if they even do the size) - I just miss the grip too much. For my wife, we may stick with the Hankook's for the efficiency/noise as she is not an aggressive driver and the cost saving, and refinement/efficiency are probably worth the compromise on grip.

I have used for tesla s. At 6 mm level I decided to change to another tire model as these ones seem not safe anymore

Driving on mostly country roads for 200 spirited miles
Given there aren't any consumer reviews on here yet, I thought I'd give my preliminary view after running them maybe 200 miles.

I bought these off the back of an autobild comparison on the exact car I have (Model S, 19" alloys) where they outperformed the OEM and where about par with Pilot Sport 5 (which is what I was running before).

So far, I'm broadly in agreement with that comparison. Pros vs PS5 (or PS4 which I had before that, or Primacy 3 OEM which it came with)

- Quieter: without a shadow of doubt. Makes the car feel more refined.
- Efficiency: hard to be 100% sure yet, as driving style, weather, temperature etc affect the efficiency of EVs, but I do believe that there is an improvement in line with that mentioned in the autobild review (~5%)
- Price: I think it was about £730 for 4 tires vs £850 for PS5

Cons:
- Handling in dry is perhaps marginally worse, but I'm being quite picky on that. I'd say that they are ever so slightly greasier in corners, but it's marginal. It could even be due to the new compound not being worn enough.

TBC:
- Handling in wet
- Longevity

So far I'm not displeased. Will try to remember to come back in a few months time when I've driven 5-6k miles.

Good tire in a warm weather (over 15c). It is dangerous when worn down to 3mm and less on a wet in cold weather. It is aquaplaning like crazy.

For first 20K km it’s work great, both dry and wet handle good But it’s now around 30K it’s easily lock the wheel when hard brake (nothing crazy)

Great for the price for dry weather. But in anything other than dry it can be very sketchy. Additionally caused my car to wander on the highway a lot, almost like constantly being hit by cross winds. Just be aware of this characteristic.

One of the best all around tires for living in Maryland with a RWD vehicle. If it snows more than 4 inches I do switch to snow tires. But for the past 2 years we have had almost no snow so these have just stayed on all year long.

Driving on mostly motorways for 9000 spirited miles
Model s p85 (rwd 450hp, 600nm ,2.1 tonne) A night and day difference to the stock 19"245/45 Goodyear rs-a2 all round . Switched to a 20" ps4s staggered 275/35 . Which was the perfect balance between grip, asthetetics , pot hole protection and comfort compared to the 21"s . Slightly less efficient and slightly more noise than stock ,which was to be expected with wider tires . Rears wore faster , have another 1000mi probably , fronts 2-3k more but overall very happy with them .

Absolutely superb winter tire. As we near one of the snowiest winters in several years in northeast Ohio, I can say with confidence these are the best snow tires I’ve used. I was a Blizzak believer until these tires. And while the Blizzaks are still one of the best snow tires available, the Michelin X-Ice Snow outperforms them in every way. Road noise, while present, is is unobtrusive, especially for a vehicle as quiet as a Tesla. The ride was firm and confident, and slightly better than the OEM Goodyear Touring that came with the car. Range dropped slightly, but not excessively. Wet grip was better than the OEM Goodyears as well. As for wear, I expect to get 3-4 winter seasons (18,000-24,000 miles), which I think is good for a winter tire driven “spiritedly” on a car as heavy as a Tesla. I will absolutely buy again.
