Volkswagen Mk8 GTI Tire Review Highlights

Writing about the Hankook Ventus S1 evo 3 given 69% (235-30-19-)
Driving on mostly town for 21000 spirited miles
So far, I love this tire. I think it has fairly decent dry grip, especially near end of life as the tread has worn down and it gets closer to slick. I haven't tracked the tire, so no extreme heat, but it breaks traction fairly slowly and is predictable near the limit. The tire has also worn well, 20k out of a tire like this given my driving style is fairly impressive. It grips up progressively after a slide, so no snappiness. I do wish it had more feel in the steering though, however I can't tell if thats the racks fault or the tires fault given that this is my first set of tires on the car. I would get again, but keep in mind the prices are fairly close to a Pilot Super Sport (Star BMW) or a Pilot Super Sport 4S, and that tire is probably a better performer in every regard and lasts approximately as long as the Hankook.

Driving on mostly motorways for 100 average miles
Purchased the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 6 Oct 23 after plenty of research via this websites excellent You Tube channel {many thanks} as well as the Volkswizard Goodyear tire tests {also on You Tube}. OEM fit to my Mk8 VW GTI were Eagle F1 Super Sports 225/40 R18 which were all I expected them to be i.e. good in most aspects given their year round use on my Golf. Changed wheel size to 19" so hence the research. No contest really. Chose the F1 Asymmetric 6 for potentially better winter/wet weather performance as these will be a year round fit. So far after a "test" drive over a very wet Saturday and a dry/sunny Sunday, very impressed!

Driving on a combination of roads for 9 average miles
These came as standard fitment on my mk 8 golf gti, I have to say that they handled very well new if they were under inflated in all weathers, but up to recommended pressure lost all feeling and became a bit wayward and understeered a lot taking away all confidence, so not sure if vw pressure recommendations are correct but got only 3 mill on fronts so going to get the Michelin ps 4 s next

Driving on a combination of roads for 200 average miles
I was really looking forward fitting these as the reviews and tests are very promising. I replaced Michelin PS4 S. What i immediately noticed is the noise and driving comfort, which is noticeably better on Michelin’s. However, when it comes to handling(especially sharper/pointier cornering) and grip both in wet and dry, this tire is a winner. The Conti’s have stiffer sidewalls than Michelins, so it make sense. Another thing which i don’t like that much is that i get more wheel hop with these tires.. but that depends from car to car i think. Would recommend these SC 7’s to everyone who loves spirited driving and Michelin’s if you care more about comfort.

Driving on mostly motorways for 2650 spirited miles
The Goodyear Eagle Sport AS (92H) was OEM on my 2022 Volkswagen GTI. It has above average grip on dry, above average grip on wet, and cornering and steering response are excellent attributes as well. I drove a total of 2650 miles (4265 km) on it and the wear seems to be above average as well. Its downfall, however, is noise… and there’s plenty of it. I didn’t even realize how noisy it used to be until I swapped out of them. I swapped out of Goodyears because I generally love and trust Michelin and Bridgestone more.
