235/50 17 Tire Review Highlights

Kenda Vezda Touring AS rated 78% while driving a Ford Fusion SE
Driving on mostly country roads for 60000 average miles
Dealer installed these tires when I bought the car. I did not expect them to be great, but I was pleasantly surprised how well they've handled Wisconsin weather year round for 5 years. Pretty solid in the rain, not the greatest in winter, but they managed about as well as I expect an all season touring tire to manage. I did drive in some deeper snow a few times long distance since I live in a small town, and with proper driving technique, they did managed to keep me from ever getting stuck.

Hankook Ventus V2 Concept 2 H457 rated 81% while driving a Lexus SC430
Driving on a combination of roads for 45000 average miles
After much thought and research, through customer feedback, advertisements and testing reviews I chose these tires for their decent ratings, price and size. My car, Lexus SC 430, comes with 245/40-18 tires wearing low profile tires which I didn't find a comfortable combo, especially for a Lexus GT. I decided to purchase a set of used LS430 wheels which share all the specs of the 18s, offset and hub size. The Hankook 235/50-17 Ventus V2 Concept, (26.1 in. dia.) gave me .7 inch more sidewall height, close to the same tread width and only .4-inch larger diameter. Hankook has several 235/50-17s with 26.1-inch diameter which is .2 inches smaller than most 235/50-17 tires, usually 26.3 This combo gave me a smoother, more comfortable, by at least 60%-70%, and quieter ride. I always keep my tire pressure to near spec. 34psi front, 31psi rear and they perform great dry, good wet and good cornering. I don't drive in snow so no comment there. I feel they are much a better wheel and tire than OEMs.

Goodyear Excellence rated 84% while driving a Ford Falcon G6E
Driving on mostly motorways for 40000 miles
I had these tires 235/50R17 96V Excellence FP fitted on my FORD G6E in April 2018 and car has done 63,000km and only now it is showing signs of wear and hairline cracks. I will buy these tires again if these were available.

Michelin Premier AS rated 66% while driving a BMW Unknown
Driving on mostly town for 0 average miles
I bought these Premier A/S tires back in April of 2020 with 106634 miles on the car when I had them installed.I had my car lined up shortly thereafter and it handled beautifully no problems and all was good. Today ,July 07, 2023, I took my car in for inspection and to my surprise the car failed the inspection because the right rear tire was almost bald in the center. The tire was worn evenly across the total width but more so in the middle. Now to be fair I keep my tire pressure at 36psi and I keep very close watch of the pressure. With that being said I don't understand why all of the other tires were in excellent shape. Since they have discontinued the Premier A/S I don't have to worry about not recommending it of which I would definitely do, my God it only had less than 19K on it. I went to the dealer that I bought them from and he as much as said that Michelin would tell me that they were over inflated and I had no valid case for a warranty claim. Needless to say I am not impressed with a tire that didn't stay on the market that long and I've played a royal price to see why. I tried calling Michelin and got tired of waiting so would I buy Michelin again, I'll have to think about.

Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 rated 92% while driving a Porsche BOXSTER 2.7
Driving on a combination of roads for 2000 spirited miles
My car has staggered tire sizes, so this review is also for 205/55 17. N spec all round. Excellent. Very secure in the wet. Excellent feel, in any situation. These may be an old tire model now, but they're none the worse for it. If, like me, you've got a 987 on 17" wheels, you will have found by now that the only premium sports tires still available in these sizes are the various N spec tires: Conti Sport Contact 3, Goodyear F1 Assymmetric 1 and these Michelins. The word on the street (owners' club) is that these are generally considered to be the best of the three.

Toyo OBSERVE GSI 6 HP rated 91% while driving a Volvo V60 T6 AWD
Driving on a combination of roads for 10000 spirited miles
I had these tires installed prior to picking up my new(to me) V60. Drove the car from Montreal to Halifax. Initially on dry roads with temperatures below freezing. What first struck was how quiet these tires are. Not just for winter tires but also compared to the all season Continentals I use for summer driving. The next day I drove in blizzard conditions(driving snow on uncleared highway) which eventually turned to slushy(wet snow) roads then finally wet roads. So within 24 hours I was able to test these tires in every winter condition other than hardpacked ice. They performed flawlessly and were confidence inspiring. Very stable, quiet and responsive. Very happy with these tires and would recommend to anyone.

Jinyu YU63 rated 34% while driving a Ford Mondeo Titanium 2.0 TCDI
Driving on mostly motorways for 10 average miles
Bought a new Car with these fitted and all seemed fine until it rained, the tires aren’t too bad In the dry but are horrendous in the wet - gave them a couple of weeks but had to change them, wouldn’t want to risk driving on these going into winter.

Vredestein Ultrac Satin rated 92% while driving a Ford Mondeo Titanium 2.0 TCDI
Driving on a combination of roads for 2000 average miles
- excellent in low NOISE: this is for the speed up to 120 Km/hour - excellent in Comfort: compared to previous Michelins and Dunlops are Ultra Satin tires better - average diesel consumption went down by 0,6l / 100 km - handling on very wet road is predictible - after 2000 miles I can not value WEAR, because is not adequate.

Pirelli P6000 rated 0% while driving a Jaguar S type 4.2 SE naturally aspirated
Driving on a combination of roads for 10000 easy going miles
These tires were fitted by Jaguar to thousands of their new cars manufactured in the period from 1998 to 2004. I have purchased
5 used low mileage vehicles built in this era when Ford was in the process of reviving the brand.

A Jaguar master technician once told me that the Pirelli 6000 was selected by the manufacturer as the first step in the design process. The cars were then built around this tire as opposed to the tire being selected upon completion of the build.

My opinion, based on over 200,000 miles of driving on all types of road, is that the Pirelli 6000 is a superb tire for the XJ8 and S-type cars. As everyone knows, Jaguars have, until more recent times, been noted for their soft pampering ride. This quality was largely derived from a superb suspension system mated with a relatively large and heavy car body. A quality, strongly built set of tires is essential for these Jaguars.

In conclusion, if you own one of these vehicles, the P6000 tire will deliver - at speed, on wet roads, dry roads, round the bends and under heavy braking. Add good durability and low noise levels for a great all rounder!

Linglong Green Max rated 69% while driving a Peugeot 607
Driving on mostly motorways for 22000 average miles
Bought 4 new tires for my 607 2.2 hdi because of the German test
I was looking for a silent cheap tire.
I life in the south of France and commute 140 km a day on the highway.
Don't care to much about grip because the highway is strait.
And since it is almost never wet I could not be bordered with that neither.

A nice silent and comfy tire.
Nice feedback about grip, there is on corner near Aix en Provence where you can test this and it stays stable until high speed.
Tire wear is more than expected but did a 30k and still 4mm left.
The only problem is that 2 out of 4 are unround.
So I had the balanced at least 5 times and finally changed one rim but still rubbish
Ordered 2 new ones and hope they are round otherwise the supplier is in trouble.
I would recommend these tires since the are 60 euro a piece and the next silent tire in this dimension is at least 90 euro.
But check it they are round otherwise you can lose the price advantage at the balancing shop.

Bridgestone Potenza RE040 rated 74% while driving a Infiniti G35 Coupe
Driving on mostly country roads for 10000 spirited miles
Tires stick like sh*t to a blanket in the dry. Not too bad in the wet, but could be better.
It must be noted that these are very noisy tires. A G35 is a very quiet car, and these tires were very audible. Very stiff sidewalls, which is most likely the reason for the awesome feedback. They're also vey progressive when peeling out from a corner.
