Bridgestone Potenza RE050A Reviews - Page 5

Given 67% while driving a Ford Mondeo 130 TDCi Zetec (205/50 R17 W) on a combination of roads for 12,500 average miles
This are one of the best tire for those who drive fast and want the best grip tire, in dry and wet. But they are so so hard in confort... forget the comfortable because the tires are super stiff...

Given 91% while driving a Mazda MX5 (205/45 R17) on a combination of roads for 15,000 spirited miles
These come standard on the MX5 from the dealership. Had the mk2.5, and felt these tires were too harsh for the chassis and suspension, so I swapped to the Toyo T1R, which on that car was a far superior tire.

I now have a mk3.5 sportstech, and am hugely impressed with the Bridgestones. The suspension and chassis work alongside the firm sidewalls and excellent levels of grip. I have 2 Toyo T1R tires on this car and am not impressed - car is too heavy for the softness of this tire, 3000 miles and half worn already. Definately back to the Bridgestones - with nitrogen in them instead of air.

Given 80% while driving a Subaru Legacy 3.0R Spec.B 6MT Sedan (225/45 R17) on mostly country roads for 20,000 spirited miles
Had two sets of these in 215/45/R18 on my Spec.B, driven on them hard and driven a lot. They're nearly on par with the PZero Rosso Asimetrico's, however a tiny little bit better in wet and they do tend to squeak a bit on the limit in the dry. Wear out equally fast as aforementioned Pirelli's. Very good performance tire all in all, I might just get them again.

Given 89% while driving a Volkswagen Scirocco 2.0 TDI 140hp (235/40 R18 W) on a combination of roads for 10,000 spirited miles
Recently changed front 2 tires as car came with these on the fronts. Grip in dry and wet is suberb and makes the car feel glued to the road. Can throw the car into corners with ease knowing you will smile coming out the other side putting your foot back on the accelerator. These tires really let you feel the road and give the steering wheel that solid feel. Standing water not an issue either. Had different tires on different cars previously but these are definitely up there with the best. Considering vredestien ultrac vorti's in the future for rears would be good to see someone review these if they have them on their Rocco!

Don't like them. My first Bridgestone that fail my expectations. Not recommend.

Given 91% while driving a Mazda mazda 6, CD129 2.2 (215/50 R17 W) on mostly motorways for 30,000 average miles
great tire, not the comfiest out there, but it's not made for that....excellent feedback...holds well until the end
a slight minus that it needs some time to "warm up" before properly working. Would buy again for a sportier car, not a mazda 6 saloon (came fitted a oem)

Given 86% while driving a Ford Mondeo (205/55 R16 V) on a combination of roads for 0 average miles
I had them 2 or 3 year ago lasted for 3 seasons. They are fantastic for cornering in dry, wet performance also impresive.
The only downside is wear. Great for high speed cruisng car is stable no jumping around, braking more than great.
After I moved to dunlop fast response and they are more comfortable but nowhere close in edge perfomance. RE50A sticks the car to the road.

Given 50% while driving a Honda Civic Type R (225/45 R17) on a combination of roads for 12,500 spirited miles
These where the stock tires on a 2008 Honda Civic Type R - FN2 (Euro). 225/40 r18.

-On the plus side, they gave a very good connection and feel with the road.

-On the negative side, the traction was very bad in the wet. Not even wet, just moist would do, and they would almost every time make wheelspin in first gear from standstill.
In rainy weather I had to start the car in second gear from standstill.

-Dry traction was better, but it seemed as if the tires needed to be warm i order to grip the road, or there was just wheelspin from standstill, and sliding throug quick corners.
Actually after 12500 miles the rear tires still had the colored circles on the tread ware surface that came from the factory.

Tire is awe full. Grip is OK on dry and wet and that's it.
Tire is like a stone, uncomfortable at all. It wears super fast.
All in all. Not gonna buy again, ever!

Given 90% while driving a Vauxhall Insignia ST SRI CDTI ecoFLEX 160 (225/45 R18 W) on mostly country roads for 24,000 average miles
After 24000 miles (3 years: 2y in front + 1y in back) my front tires need to be replaced (maybe they can hang on for another 1000 miles). The back tires are ok, maybe they get another 20000 miles?!
I have exchange the front with the rear tires at 8000 and at 16000 miles. I guess the "low" wear is due to that exchange.
I usually check the pressuare, assuring 34psi at front and 37psi at back.
This are the factory tires, and i will put another Potenza RE050A.
I can't compare this tires to others because i haven't tried another tires in this car, but i don't have nothing bad to say about this tires. So i think they are good tires. Anyway they are some of the top tires from bridgestone, so they must be good.
These tires aren't noisy (at least in my car).
I'm from Portugal so you can figure it out the weather: mostly sun, but some heavy rain/wet roads, and some/little snow.

Given 61% while driving a Mazda MX5 (205/45 R17 W) on mostly motorways for 200,000 spirited miles
MX5 2L 3.5 Sport 2011. Mostly fast motorway and occasional trackday. Manufacturer fitted Bridgestone Potenza RE050A. Good grip in dry and plenty in wet but noisy and lots of bump thump over anything but the smoothest tarmac. Rears have significant and uneven wear after 20,000 miles. Report suggests 29 psi too low. Recommend 32 psi for normal use but expect increased noise and discomfort. Tail end now so wayward will be changing rears v. soon as some areas down to wear bars. Fronts show very little wear apart from shoulders due to manufacturers recommended low 29 psi inflation. Thinking of ditching Bridgestone in favour of Toyo T1R, as worked well on previous Mk3, 2L Sport.

Alful tire. Bad grip when weather is anything buy very hot. Wears fast, noisy, very rigit and uncomfortable. Feels like the cheapst tires out there but costs a pretty peny. Buy something else
