Bridgestone Potenza Sport Reviews - Page 3

Given 83% while driving a Mazda 3 MPS (225/40 R18) on mostly country roads for 0 spirited miles
Coming from Michelin PS3 following things really impressed me:

- Steering Feel. It is super direct and feels amazing.
- Wet Grip. It's kinda insane I have to admit I was able to push it during rainstorms.
- 1. and 2. Gear pull no wheelspin with 260hp and 380nm. No matter if dry or wet.
- Tire warms up in 3 min of normal driving

I was able to compare the performance to my friend, who was driving a Ford Focus RS MK2 with Michelin Cup2.
In the dry, cornering speed are the same at the beginning. But as soon, as the Bridgestone get to hot, they loose grip.
In the Rain it goes crazy, without any compromise you can hammer around the corners, as long, as there isn't any deep water.

If you want to use them for track, I recommend it for rainy days. In the dry, it will melt.

On the German Autobahn above 200km/h, I kinda had the feeling the tires loose a lot of precision, because they get to hot, or can't deal with high speeds for more than 5 min.
It felt like driving balloon winter tires.
This only happened on hot summer days (30°C).

Comfort is not it's strength. It feels rather harsh and is a bit noisy.

Now, I am able to test Cup2 against it.
Most difference is temperature tolerance, obviously.
Cup 2 are better above 20°C, need lots of heat to work. If it's under 20°C, it has less grip, in the cold wet it's really low.

They are surprisingly comfortable and quiet compared to the Potenza Sport.

Potenza have better wear on the streets, TW300.
Cup2 better wear on track, TW180.

The tires have less tread on them than most competitors from new. They felt quite good from new, need some heat into them to perform, and they did perform quite well on track. However, after the first Nurburgring laps the tires looked in terrible shape, especially the fronts (F20 could use more neg. camber on the front). Friends with different but similar class FWD cars, but with Michelin PS4(S) looked much better after the same number of laps.

DOT code 06 22, just over a year later the rear tires are already worn. The fronts look in terrible shape and are close to end of life as well. May 2022, 3 Nurburgring laps, one of which in the wet and the tread looked terrible after 2 laps. Parts of it were melted and chunks had fallen off. Oktober 2022 2 wet Nurburgring laps, April 2023 2 more (wet then dry) Nurburgring laps and 2* 15 minute sessions on Zandvoort in May 2023. Around 32.000km driven in total. The Nurburgring laps were never consequent laps and the tire pressure was lowered to around 2 bar prior to the lap.

Fuel consumption is not great either. I went from 225 -> 235 on the front and 245 -> 255 on the rear. On a 90km run to uni I used to easily get 4-4.5L/100km with Goodyear Eagle F1 asymmetric 2 (runflat), with the Bridgestone it was difficult to get 5L/100km.

Car: 2017 BMW 120D M-sport (lowered)
Front: 235/40R18
Rear: 255/35R18
Use: Economical highway driving. Occasional spirited driving. Total 6 Nordschleife laps and 30 minutes Zandvoort sessions

Given 79% while driving a Aston Martin V8 Vantage 4.3 (275/35 R19) on mostly motorways for 13,000 average miles
Very happy with them, 6 months and 13k Km after I put a full set of these (235/40/19 fronts and 275/35/19 rears) on my Aston Martin V8 Vantage (2007), approximately consumed half of their life, most of those kilometers has been done on highways, little in the city, some country and hill roads plus some laps at Nürburgring, I can tell it's an outstanding tire, their performance is near close to semi-slick levels, they works extremely well on dry roads and don't need to be careful about warming them unless you live in a very cold climate, very well on wet roads which is not common for this kind of sport compound, they feels very sporty on every day use, steering feel is gorgeous, as downside it's a soft compound in their segment so expect to not be the best mileager tire and above average noise, I don't recommend them to use on daily "normal" cars, they are not terrible in this job but I think they are better intended for fun/sports cars.

Given 81% while driving a SEAT Ibiza Cupra 20VT (215/40 R17) on mostly country roads for 15,000 spirited miles
This is an end of life review.

The Bridgestone Potenza Sport is an excellent sporty tire. It has good grip in the dry and resists the hot 35C summers here in Greece well. They are neutral at the limit, allowing me to control the rotation of the car with the accelerator if needed. Steering feedback is above average (though my Ibiza with its electrohydraulic rack is not the most communicative platform. Braking distance is excellent both on dry and wet surfaces. Wet grip is decent for the low tread the tires come from the factory, and handling balance there has a tiny hint of oversteer, but its so little that even the ESP doesn't activate.

Comfort and noise take a step back, but I don't really care about such trivial things. Tire life is also shorter compared to the PS4, but the upsides make up for it. Lastly, the price is very reasonable at around 420€/set. I'll fit them again next month when it's time to change tires.

Given 91% while driving a BMW M240i (245/35 R18) on a combination of roads for 500 spirited miles
This tire is amazing on the front axle. Grip for days, feedback is great. Fast warmup and doesn't overheat fast on a long track. Went to the Nürburgring and i'm amazed. After seeing the test, everyone concluded that this tire isn't suitable for hard abuse. Let me tell you if your car is setup right. After doing many laps on the ring, tire wear is normal. 245/35/18 is a difficult size. 100% buy again. For daily driving it's excellent. Wet grip is excellent. Couldn't wish any better. Wish they brought out the Potenza Race in this size

Given 74% while driving a Honda Civic Type R (225/40 R18) on a combination of roads for 20 spirited miles
On wet road this tire is brilliant. Very good on braking and handling. On the dry condition is very good also but my opinion the previous S001 was far better. The wear is high for potenza series also. I had 20.000 kilometres and the wear is obvious on the outer thead of the tire. I drive most cornering roads and i want to get maximum performance. The tire is comfortable for bridgestone potenza series. Also a compare with old s001 the Race are more comfortable.
If to buy again. hmm, i don't know yet. i need more kilometres but in general i expected something better from new Potenza's

Given 91% while driving a BMW Z4 30i (255/35 R18) on mostly country roads for 4,000 spirited miles
Excellent tire both in the dry and in the wet. I have it on my weekend fun car which I mainly drive hard on highways and twisty mountain roads. Comfort is not great, nor is the wear, but oh my the grip is excellent! Once they get some temperature in them they grip and grip and grip. Steering is sharp, braking is great and again lots of grip on the rears. Had some highway trips in pouring rain - no problems at all. They felt secure on higher speeds and when braking. Price wise they were cheaper than anything in their class and for spirited driving I think they are the best choice, hence you don't think of the wear factor of course. I believe they will last me 2 summers, but if available and if nothing better comes up - definitely will buy them again.

Given 80% while driving a Jaguar Jaguar XE (255/35 R19) on mostly country roads for 7,000 spirited miles
Great sports tires. Mounted on jaguar xe awd in the sizes: Front 225/40 r19y; Rear 255/35 r19y. Hard shoulders, therefore uncomfortable for tour guides, but steering as sharp as a blade. Slightly noisy. Seal of 10 and praise on dry and wet. Wear: I don't think I do more than 20/25 thousand km. Driving style: sporty. Recommended for driving pleasure and sporty driving, for touring speeds choose other tires.
