Dunlop SportMaxx RT Reviews - Page 10

Given 89% while driving a Saab Automobile 9 3 Aero 2.8 V6 convertible (225/45 R17) on a combination of roads for 8,000 average miles
I left a review mid-October '13, when the tires were new-on. 8000 miles of mostly A-road / dual carriageway later, they are still top-rate. I expected I'd need to swap the fronts & rears, to even out wear, about now; but there is no need to yet - lots of tread-depth all round.

The tires became quieter once they'd settled in. What hasn't changed since new is the confidence in fast, dry cornering: they just grip and grip more.

They are a little more skittish on standing water at speed (of which the A3 in Hampshire has had plenty) but, when forced through B-road floods, there was no loss of grip or traction.

Highly recommended tire. I will report back once the tires reach end-life.

Given 36% while driving a Ford Mondeo (225/45 R17) on mostly country roads for 8,000 average miles
I do not recommend! These tires are a second hand Dunlop. Beyond the somewhat limited performance is abnormal for these tires to oval and make a huge noise after only 12,000 km.

Given 68% while driving a Mercedes Benz CLK 430 Coupe (245/40 R17 W) on mostly country roads for 4,600 spirited miles
I put an axle set of these Dunlops on the back of my CLK after I bought it - the P Zero Rossos it came with were on the bars, so can't compare. Dunlops are quiet and offer lots of grip. Can't really speak to feedback because they're on the rear, but no complaints.

Only thing, and this is massive, after 4,600 miles they are probably 75% worn. This was mostly (fast) motorway driving, and mostly in the wet, so extremely disappointed. You'd think I'd have been power sliding everywhere to get that level of wear after such a short time. It's even wear with no artifacts, and common to both sides so it's not an alignment issue.

£80 a month on tires by the time I'll need new ones really isn't acceptable. This is a shame because I love the performance.

Given 87% while driving a Alfa Romeo Giuiletta (235/40 R18) on a combination of roads for 1,000 spirited miles
The Giulietta came with Pirelli P Zero Rossos, but toward 35,000km the ride and noise became unbearable. Then I put these on, it completely transformed the car. The road noise is tremedrously reduce, ride and smoothness is excellent. Steering response and also fantastic. Of course wear I cannot say yet, but I would but these again purely because they feel so great new. Now I just cannot wait to drive the car everyday, where as before the drives where tiring.

Given 69% while driving a Mercedes Benz C55 Sedan (245/40 R17 W) on mostly town for 5,000 average miles
These tires look great and handle better on the road. However, after 6 months I need a new set of tires. The tread wear is crap. These tires give up tread wear for extreme performance. I would only recommend for a track car.

Given 70% while driving a Honda CIVIC 1.6 VTEC (205/55 R16 W) on a combination of roads for 3,000 average miles
Very good tire in the dry, they're very good In the wet all the time you're moving. I can often wheel spin in the wet if briskly pulling away. Probably not qui
te worth the money, I'll probably go Falken ZE914 for my next set as they're quite a bit cheaper.

Given 97% while driving a Renault Clio III Dynamique 1.6 (205/50 R16 W) on mostly country roads for 1,200 spirited miles
Excellent tire. Renault Clio III 1,6 . After the first 3000 Km , the tires are superb. The feeling is lively, the dry grip is awesome, yet the best feature is undoubtedly the wet grip; never experienced that much grip on wet. No score for wear yet.

Given 86% while driving a Skoda Yeti 4 x 4 (225/45 R17) on a combination of roads for 0 average miles
I did quite a lot of research before investing in these tires as I wanted something better than the Dunlop SP1 tires they replaced.

The difference was immediate and the level of grip in cold and damp conditions was very marked. They were also quieter than the originals.

I cannot comment on wear at the moment, however they are allegedly pretty good and more fuel efficient as well!

The grooves on these are wider than I was expecting, so maybe hot weather grip may suffer a little but will need to wait for the summer to know on that.

Given 84% while driving a Skoda Fabia vRS (225/45 R17) on a combination of roads for 1,000 spirited miles
Softer than pilot sport's they replaced. Wet cornering is excellent these tire's give you confidence to push on where as before you might hesitate due to feeling grip would not be there. Also ride more comfortably.

Given 97% while driving a Saab Automobile Vector Sport (225/45 R17 W) on a combination of roads for 50 spirited miles
Compelled to write review as noticed immediate difference in the way car handles. The vehicle seems to stick to the road in both wet & dry conditions improving noise level too. Being a soft tire only concer will be how they wear during winter? But in all honesty so far so good no complaints. Will mention having stuck to budget tires previously on my Saab 93 Vector Sport every aspect of ride has a noticeable improvement with Dunlop Sport Maxx RT!

Given 86% while driving a Ford Focus mk2 (205/55 R16 W) on mostly country roads for 12,000 spirited miles
I bought these tires on the strength of the reviews on here and elsewhere. I have not been disappointed. These tires are quiet and comfortable and have bags of grip in the dry. Wet grip, however, was not as good as I was expecting. I've had Vredestein Sportrac 3 and Uniroyal RainSport 2 tires before, and they were both better in the wet, all the way down to 2mm. Currently, the Dunlops are on 4-5mm and the wet handling/cornering has dropped away quite a bit, leading to understeer on the many roundabouts here. I think this is largely due to the massive outer shoulder blocks. Still, they are great tires and the feedback is so good that you know when you are at the limit and understeer is coming! Wear has been better than I feared. The tires also look the part and for the price, are a performance bargain. I imagine with the dropping temperatures as winter approaches their performance will drop away, but that is to be expected with a summer tire. All in all, a great tire and I would recommend if you value grip, handling, quietness and feedback.
