Nexen N Fera SU1 Reviews - Page 6

Given 66% while driving a Subaru Impreza WRX (245/40 R18 W) on track for 10,000 spirited miles
I bought these tires when I replaced my factory wheels, as they wouldn't clear the upgraded brakes back in 2014.

The compound felt soft, and thr tires appeared to have a nice tread pattern.

Dry performance on the road has been superb considering the price I paid for these ($150 a corner). I never really took the car out in the rain, so can't really comment on wet performance.

On the track, the tires were acceptable, but nothing amazing. I found them to be predictable, and I knew their limits, which admittedly was quite early. Once they heated up too much, they would skate around a lot, which wouldn't inspire much confidence. As I've driven them pretty hard, they've started splitting pretty badly along the outside area of the tread, and I've taken it as a sign to retire them, despite them still having plenty of tread life.

I would absolutely recommend these for a road car if you're on a budget, they gripped really well at regular speeds, even with spirited driving. On the street I had so much confidence in these tires. I would consider these on a low powered track car (maybe something like a Civic or an Excel for example) , but once you move into anything heavier and more powerful, it would be worth moving to a better tire.

Given 67% while driving a Mazda 6 (225/45 R18 W) on a combination of roads for 7,000 spirited miles
Bought 4 new tires for my 2009 Mazda 6 2.5 Petrol Hatchback, UK model. Payed £65 per corner, fitted. Tire ratings are C and C.

They are generally good tires... Dry and wet grip are good, noise is low and comfort is good. After 7000 miles the fronts are at 4mm and rears at 6mm so swapped around as the car is starting to understeer badly in the wet. So, not very long lasting tires on this Mazda and I would not buy again as the price doesn't warrant the short life and average sporting performance. Probably decent tires for a slower, more progressive driver.

Given 90% while driving a Mercedes Benz C350 RWD (225/40 R19) on a combination of roads for 2,750 spirited miles
Surprisingly shocked with these tires. I had OEM continental sport contacts on my car before and I feel these tires are on par, with slightly less road noise and more comfortable. I often drive in sport and occasionally in sport+ and the grip in dry weather is impressive. Incredible value for money and would buy for sure again if the prices don’t increase too much in the future.

Given 84% while driving a Nissan Qashqai (225/45 R19 W) on mostly motorways for 13,000 average miles
Changed to Nexen after my originally fitted Continental Sport Contact 5 were worn to the limit in only 22k miles.
The SU1 replacements have been superb, with very little difference in performance at almost half the price.
Now covered 13k miles and still like new.
Very impressed with the lack of noise and excellent dry and wet handling too.

Given 86% while driving a BMW 730d Sport (275/35 R20 W) on a combination of roads for 1,000 spirited miles
I have these tires on my current BMW E65 730D on 20" Style 149 alloys and they're very good tires indeed.

Bought them off the back of owning them on some 18" alloys on a previous E39 530i and again, I found them to be very good, with great grip and driving feedback

They grip very well in the dry and very well in the wet also. Their feedback is good, not a lot of road noise and they make for a very compliant ride as well.

For their price I think they'd be very hard to beat with any other tire!

Given 61% while driving a Ford Mondeo Titanium 2.0 TCDI (235/40 R18) on a combination of roads for 15,000 spirited miles
started off with goodyear eagle f1 as2 (brillent tire) then couldnt get them anymore and tried the nitto invo (very good tire) then wanted a change to hopefully better tire but these ended up worse than the nitto and not even close to the f1.

quite dissapointed with my tire guy as quality getting worse every change of tire so shopped around and ended up now on a michelen pilot sport 4 (brillent tire)

su1 was not very good in the wet (from the strat) and noisy towards the end. reccommend another tire if not to much more expensive like the michelin im on now.

Given 68% while driving a BMW 320 d (235/45 R17) on for 0 miles
I've been driving with the for a couple of months already. On a dry road handling is good, not noisy, but on the wet road it wasn't as pleasant. Aquaplaning starts quite quickly where the road is not a good quality and more water collects, after the first quite dangerous situations I am more careful now.

Given 100% while driving a Hyundai i40 tourer (215/55 R17 R) on a combination of roads for 0 average miles
As a normal driver not an expert I could say that nexen tires are quite decent tires. Car handling is good and it's not loud inside the car. Price is good so you can't go wrong on that. I would buy them again and again. Recommended to all

Peugeot 407 4 door sedan 2.0 petrol (215/55 R17 V) on a combination of roads for 0 average miles
I have not had time to evaluate but they seem to be a well made tire. The UTQG ratings stamped on my 215 55R17 94V tires are: Treadwear 400 Traction A Temperature A. The EU tire ratings are E, A, 70, where A is wet grip, so I am a little surprised that the UTQG traction was not AA?

Given 81% while driving a Alfa Romeo MiTo (225/40 R18 W) on mostly country roads for 4,000 average miles
Tried these on my MiTo 1.4 TB 155hp on a 225/40/18 size. I never considered Nexens as budget tires especially compared to some cheap chinese variants of other brands. I have been driving with these the last 4,000 miles and i am very satisfied. The time will tell of course for the wear and general feedback on the tires' behavior, but all the current characteristics seem to do the job. Handling in the dry is very grippy and in the wet provides confidence too. Overall it is a quite tire. The only drawback i noticed is its behavior on aquaplaning especially during very heavy rain. Of course MiTo is not a very heavy car, but in these conditions i slow down a bit. No problems or concerns so far, i believe it is down to time to see whether they are an all arounder, but until now i am very happy.

Given 54% while driving a BMW (225/45 R17) on mostly town for 500 spirited miles
These tires are actually great compromise tires for 9 out of ten people. Unfortunately for me I’m the 10th guy. My 135i had virtually zero body roll . Now, for me it’s undrivable due to way too pliant a sidewall. My countless upgrades to my car suspension are negated by these tires. I just went cheap, which is something I normally don’t do. I won’t do it on tires again.... Steve Smith
