The Best Studded / Friction Winter Tires for 2024
1st of 17 tires
  • The Pirelli Ice Zero 2 emerged as the top-performing studded tire in the test. It offered good all-round performance, excelling in wet conditions for a studded tire. Its ice grip, while good, wasn't as exceptional as some other studded tires. The tire performed well in the moose test, indicating good stability. However, it suffered from higher rolling resistance and noise levels compared to non-studded options. Despite these issues, its balanced performance across various conditions made it the top choice among studded tires.

Given 26% while driving a Volkswagen Passat B8 2.0 TDI 4 Motion (225/55 R17) on a combination of roads for 1,000 easy going miles
This tire made me never want to buy Pirelli again. I got a new pair of studded Pirelli ice zero when I bought a Passat Alltrack 4motion. Even after 1000km I got slips in low speeds driving in the bends. I was chocked how bad it was. Works fine in the wet and salty roads, but worthless on ice… I switched to a used nokia hakka 8 studded with 8mm and it was so much better. I live in the northern part of sweden.

At it tires are an important shortcoming: aftet 95 km/h strongly hoots "whuuuuuuuuuu"!

Solid studded tire, not super noisy, very good on snow and seems as good as anything else on ice. Obviously it's not designed for handling but it's a nice driving tire for a studded tire. Highly recommended.
