Uniroyal RainSport 3 Reviews - Page 10

Given 87% while driving a Mazda 6 Sport 2.3L (215/45 R17 W) on a combination of roads for 0 average miles
A search on the internet shows that here in Northern Ireland we average 213 wet days a year (feels more like 313), so my first priority was to find a tire with excellent wet-weather handling, grip and braking. The Uniroyal Rainsport 3 certainly meets that criteria! As so many have already stated on reviewing this tire, the wet performance is truly excellent and the dry performance is more than adequate. You are not going to get the razor sharp performance of expensive Michelin or Continental premium brands for example but then again the Rainsport 3's cost less than half the price. A new set of four with the old tires disposed of cost me £300. The tires that were replaced were Michelin Exaltos and I would pick the Uniroyals over the Michelins without hesitation. In addition to being a safe tire, I find them to be both very quiet and very comfortable. With the Michelins, the occupants in my car had to shout at each other to converse at motorway speeds! The Rainsport 3's are much much quieter. As far as wear, I've only done around 2000 miles but they seem to be holding up okay but even if they wear out more quickly than the other major brands, I feel that the lower prices and superb wet performance more than compensates for the reduced wear. So in summary, if you drive sensibly and want to get from point A to point B safely, especially on the damp, slippery UK roads I unreservedly recommend the Uniroyal Rainsport 3. They are great tires when weighing up price versus performance!

Used on a Taxi, absolutely unbelievable in the wet, in fact they act like the road is dry in the wet!
in the dry they are good too but its when its wet they come alive for me.
done 7k up till now and wear is looking good.
very impressed.

My experience of Uniroyal is in a friends car, but has prompted me to order a set of 205/55 R16 V91 Rainsport 3's. I have studied many, many reviews, looked at prices on every on line site available and come to the conclusion that these tire are the best choice for me. I was amazed to find no garages here in Torquay sell these tires, and most will only fit tires purchased from them! I found one garage that will fit my tires allowing me to buy at a bargain price online and have them fitted at local garage and old tires disposed of etc. Pointless wasting money on the two other alternatives I considered, Goodyear Efficient Performance and Michelin Cross Climate. Looking forward to great driving even in UK weather.

These tires are great. You hit a puddle and high speed and it will brake your car. Literally. Also great on dry.

The downside? The wear. In a year, they had nothing. Maintained properties though but were basically illegal to drive in because of the thread depth. Sad.

Given 69% while driving a Vauxhall Vectra (225/45 R17) on a combination of roads for 11,000 average miles
Had them fitted in front of my car for the last two times round. Very comfortable and quiet tires, very grippy in the wet and, as the maker promises, very resistant to aquaplanning. Due to soft walls need to be inflated to 36-38 PSI when on the front axle of my car. The biggest drawback is that after two rounds of wearing them, they consistently only return 11000-12000 miles before they turn illegal. I'm no track driver, so I don't budget for premature wear. For this rather pathetic wear rate, despite all the pros, I would buy them again only if I got a bargain price.

Given 62% while driving a SEAT Leon FR tdi (225/45 R17) on a combination of roads for 10,000 average miles
I bought these after being recommended them by a friend. I put them on both the front and back 14 months ago. They stick like the proverbial to a blanket in the wet, and almost as well in the dry. The sidewalls are very strong and have taken a beating from kerbs once or twice with no bother.
The back tires get no grief whatsoever as all the weight is at the front and the car is FWD; as such, the back tires are still like new, and even still have the coloured lines around the inside of the tread that you get on new tires.
The fronts however... They've done just over 10,000 miles and are totally shot! The centre third of the tires are down to the limiters and the outer and inner edges are slick!
I had Goodyear F1 Eagles before these, and I'll be returning to them next.
I wouldn't buy these tires again purely due to the wear!

Pro's:
Great grip in both wet and dry

Cons:
Just don't last long at all.

I am REALLY REALLY disappointed with Uniroyals. Tire has no road feedback, The car rides very unstable and swingy. I do not understand why this tire has such a really good rating. Only advantage - driving on wet roads....but the only one.

Previously driven on Dunlops Sport SP 01 and Hankook Venus Prime 2.

Brilliant wet weather tire and also very good in the dry. These tires do wear fast and will require more wheel balancing as they wear, more so in the larger format sizes. High speed cruising is reassuring and do not suffer with tramlining. Fitted to all 4 wheels and replaced Michelins. 420Nm of torque through a 6 speed full auto box. Handles take off very well with no wheel spin. Copes extremely well with heavy braking. Corners as good as more expensive premium brands, but you will know when these tires have reached the limit. 45 profile more suited to straight line high speed driving than hard cornering. Less road noise than the Michelins. Running the XL variant so sidewalls are stiffer than the standard tire. Expect to get about 10000 miles before replacing at 2.5mm. Also have been balanced twice to account for wear. Trade off great grip for high wear rate.

Given 77% while driving a Audi S5 (255/35 R19 W) on a combination of roads for 7,000 spirited miles
Had Rainsports on my S5 for close to 2 years now. They hold the road, wet or dry, better than anything else I've tried on the S5. However, they do wear quickly and the sidewalls are not that resilient to kerbs (scrape a kerb lightly and expect to see a chunk of rubber missing).

However, I would not trade the grip for anything. The car sticks to the road, wet or dry, like snot to a babies lip. So you replace them every 7000 miles, that's still decent and grip is certainly more important than any of the downsides.

Given 86% while driving a Ford Fiesta (195/45 R16 V) on mostly motorways for 2,000 spirited miles
Greetings from Greece
Pros:
excellent dry and wet grip
Excellent ride comfort (on bad quality pavement, bumps etc) due to soft sidewall.
Extraordinary aquaplaning resistance
Low nose level (but usually has loud tires fitted)
Awesome tread style, nice sidewall visuals. Good looking tire.
Unmatched price to performance ratio.for less money, you ll hey really budget tires only.

Cons:
Sluggish feeling when driving on twisties that have right turns immediately after left turns and vice versa. You can feel that the tire construction gets deformed. That is the reason that the tire is so much better on bumbs and bad tarmac.
After some spirited (but not very extreme) driving the fronts have obvious signs of wear especially near the outer tread near the sidewall. I can tell that these will end their lifetime at about half the distance as everything else I have tried (I have had 5 tire sets until now for about 22.000 miles each)

PLEASE do yourself a favor and OVERinflate these tires, it will help them get some stiffness and tread durability. They will not transform completely, but there will be a noticeable difference. Don' be shy, I am running them at 2.6/2.2 bar instead of 2.0/1.8 (front /rear) that the car manufacturer recommends.
Would happily but then again, the pros are so much more important than the cons on this tire.

Toller Reifen.
