Vredestein Quatrac 5 Reviews - Page 2

Given 92% while driving a Skoda Octavia (205/55 R16 V) on a combination of roads for 30,000 easy going miles
When on wet surfaces, I couldn't tell much difference compared to the dry ones! A bit understeering when pushed to the limit on dry tarmac, but until right before the limit it's as good as a premium summer tire. Really comfortable on bumpy - uneven surfaces.

It surely prevents you from using chains when dealing with snow and ice. I'd definitely buy them again.

Given 88% while driving a Subaru Legacy 3.0R Spec B (215/45 R18) on a combination of roads for 1,000 average miles
Having had our first significant snowfall of the year, a solid 10cm on the side roads, these tires have performed exceptionally. They provide ample grip on even significant snow covered inclines, granted with the assistance of the AWD system in my legacy, but its is the lateral grip while cornering and stopping power that really stands out.
Even in lower temperatures - sub 5/6 degrees C- they remain noticeably more flexible, retaining the same grip available at higher temperatures.
Wear is too early to comment other than there are no real signs after 1000 miles on a fairly potent legacy spec b.
100% recommend to anyone looking for a winter/ all season.

Tires are fitted in March 2016. Till now 32500miles are done. No problems in summers and winters until this year. Thread depth is 4mm now and my car slides on snow sometimes. Put winter tires in January and no slide anymore. Think that they will serve as a summer tire for one season and that's all.

Given 88% while driving a Smart Fortwo MHD cabrio (175/55 R15 T) on mostly country roads for 800 average miles
My girlfriend needed new tires on her Smart Cabrio rear wheel drive.
As we live in Switzerland (ski region) i was looking for a set of good 4 season tires.
As the Kuhmo Winter Tires on the Smart were completly done. (2mm left)
A cousin of my drove from Holland to Norway in wintertime with his Saab 9-5 on The Vredestein Quatrac 5.
He is (was) a really wintertire fan in winterconditionsˋ as he was going every single year to Norway he was my perfect real experience person. He was so positive about these tires in Norway that i decided to by 4 of them for the realwheeldrive Smart Cabrio.

Of my personal experience i can say the following:

Dry: handling is okey; brake and corners are standard
Wet: very good felt really safe with heavy heavy rain
Snow: as long as you use your brain this tire is as food as a full winter tire, good traction and breaking is even better.
Comfort: i was so surprised how quite this tire really is, it felt almost as i was driving a different (newer) car.

Buy again ? absolutely!! The dutchies (Vredestein) are doing really well the last few years;
But only buy this tire if you have a normal car with not to much power. If you have a lot of power and drive over snow covered roads I would go for the Vredestein Wintrac Pro,

Given 90% while driving a (225/45 R17) on mostly country roads for 10,000 spirited miles
After years with the Quadtrak 3's I went onto 5's with a bit of apprehension. I needn't have worried. Every bit as good as the 3's but not sure if they are better.
I've had them on my aging VW Passat estate and on my Saab 9-3 estate with now about to buy some for my newest arrival, another more powerful Saab estate. We live in the Peak District so winter tires are very advisable if you don't want to get stuck. These were brilliant last winter when we had snow at least once for 5 months. Not once did I fail to get to work. Not bad for a 2wd car!
Wet weather is no problem with these tires. There are many places on my commuting run that fill up with water after heavy rain. Many times I have found the road completely submerged and I've gone through with total confidence. They have never let me down.
In dry hot weather they aren't perfect but it's a small price to pay considering that we have more wet weather than hot sunny weather.

Given 85% while driving a Toyota MR2 mk3 Roadster (215/45 R16 V) on a combination of roads for 100 spirited miles
My car actually has staggered sizes, so this is also a review for 185/55 15 fronts.

Really pleased. Instantly felt planted. Got the car out on some tasty roads, and it delivered.

I got these all season tires just for use over winter to avoid any hairy moments on frosty mornings in this mid engined vehicle. Summer tires will go back on in April. I was deliberately seeking the sportiest feel possible from a tire with snow and ice capability. According to the 2018 AMS All Season Tire Test, usefully archived on this website, this Vredestein might just be that tire. Although it came 5th out of 7th overall, the test awarded it best steering feel and a score of 9 for subjective feel - as good as the reference summer tire (Continental Premium Contact 5). I wanted winter safety without really compromising sportiness and feedback, and I believe I have achieved that. These are actually more fun to drive on than the, admittedly pretty average, summer tires I had before, and I think that speaks volumes. For a siped tire to feel sportier than a summer tire, even an unremarkable one, is a real achievement.

The much vaunted Michelin Crossclimate isn't available in my size, so I can't compare it. But everything I've read and what I experienced today out on some twisty back lanes tells me these are actually better; at least for enthusiastic drivers. There isn't any such thing as a sports winter or all season tire in 15" sizes. But if there was, this would be it.

Given 89% while driving a Honda CR Z (205/45 R17) on a combination of roads for 6,000 average miles
Changed over from summer tires to "all season" Vredestein 5 with much improved comfort & reduced noise. During "Beast from the East" tires gave confidence & good turn in/braking on snow, grip in sheet ice was not as good as full winter tires (as could be expected). Good wear, a decent price, nice all round tire.

I had these tires for approximately 20.000km and I drove throughout every possible scenario.
Here in Abruzzo, Italy, you can travel from the sea to 2500mt mountain passes in an hour and half, so I can tell I tested these tires deeply. Lets start with summer handling: they are fairly good, even in the hottest days (40 degrees Celsius in august) they perform well enough to drive in complete safety and comfort. But there are some drawbacks: as you can imagine, the tire's compound is a bit soft to well adapt in cold weather, so in tight corners at high speed you can clearly feel the its limit. But it's okay: these are not performance tires.
In winter they perform even better and, in my opinion, they're better than a summer tire, in fact the grip is very good. In snow and ice conditions you can't expect a lot, expecially in extreme conditions, but overall I was satisfacted by their behaviour. Lastly, but not least important, wet performance. Sorry Vredestein, but they're not so good. Both in winter and summer condition the lateral grip is poor as well braking and traction. Never experienced aquaplaning though. And they're not the quietest tires in the market (and not the loudest).
Buy again? For this price there is something else you want to see (Nexen Nblue 4 season, which I wrote a review on this site).

Given 95% while driving a Hyundai Santa Fe (235/55 R19 H) on a combination of roads for 3,000 average miles
Fitted these on my family SUV as, with a drive to a ski holiday booked, I wanted better winter performance than the stock summer road tire. Nothing more embarrassing than being the driver of a 4x4 but being stuck in bad weather!.
The Quatrac is quiet and retains excellent feel through the corners. They don’t match the old Hankook Ventus Prime for emergency dry braking but there is plenty of grip even on a spirited drive. In the cold and wet they really start to excel. The car always has plenty of grip, there’s no spin when pulling away quickly. Loads of grip in the corners and braking is excellent. The ride is great too.
I needed winter certified tires for 2 trips to the Alps for skiing. The Quatracs are compliant with European winter tire regulations. In severe snow conditions they are better than budget winter tires. The car retained amazing levels of grip in acceleration, steering and braking. Our chalet was up a hill away from the main road and had a very steep drive. I was the only vehicle in our group that didn’t need snow chains to ascend the hill. Fresh powder, wet snow, compacted snow and ice, nothing stopped the Quatracs gripping. When the snow melted and became deep slush the car still had loads of traction. Back home we experienced freezing rain after a night of snow and the local roads became an ice rink. Only then did the traction control and ABS braking intervene, yet still I was able to get home safely.
Many will tell you all season tires are a compromise. These out perform most winter tires in mild winter conditions and match them in severe snow, ice and slush. In warm dry summer drives they match summer tires too. You are not aware that your tires aren’t a summer road tire. In cool and wet conditions they excel. Where’s the compromise? They are decent in light off road driving too!

Bought the tires two years ago and drove them around 45.000km in Turkey and Bulgaria, year-round, they still have approximately 5mm tread depth. In dry, wet and snow had no problems. Tires are quiet and soft at least compared to my previous Bridgestones. Wear is low, think that i can use them at least one more year.

i've had the tires on for 4 months and in the worst snow we've seen in years(peak district) they've performed really well up to now passing other cars on steep hills and braking confidently going down. Can't comment on wear due to the short time they've been on
