Goodyear Eagle NCT5 Reviews - Page 7

Given 85% while driving a Porsche 944 (215/60 R15 V) on a combination of roads for 1,000 spirited miles
Put a set of these on my car to replace some very disappointing Kumho KH15s and they have transformed my car!

The level of grip they offer is fantastic. With the Kumhos there was horrible understeer and no warning about losing grip - with the Goodyears the situation is totally resolved.

Plenty of grip, good warning about what is happening with the car and impeccable road manners - the perfect match to my 944.

It just goes to prove that you get what you pay for and quality shows!

Given 60% while driving a Volkswagen passat GT (185/65 R14 H) on a combination of roads for 10,000 average miles
These tires were very dissapointing, with below average grip. (Especially after the brilliant Goodyear Venturas which were on the car previously).

They may have been OK cruising on the motorway but they could easily loose grip at roundabouts and did not inspire confidence. I would not recommend them.

Given 41% while driving a Vauxhall Vectra (215/50 R17 W) on mostly motorways for 18,000 spirited miles
Factory fit on my 1.8VVT SRi. Second worst tires I've driven on, and in the past 14 years on the road I've averaged 60k a year as an IT Engineer driving mostly company cars.

The NCT5 has a soft sidewall which is excellent for comfort, but rubbish for handling and feedback through the steering. It almost feels like I'm driving with flat tires, despite trying various pressures.

Actual grip in the dry is average for a touring tire, and wet performance is reasonable for the first 2mm of tread. After that the fussy little tread bits wear off and you're left with 4 solid bands of rubber which do nothing in the wet only float about.

Considering they're a Treadwear 280 tire, and I do mostly motorway miles, fronts were down to 3mm by 16,500 on the clock. Rears are down to about 5.5mm.

Replaced the fronts with a pair of Bridgestone Turanza ER300, and couldn't believe how they transformed the car. I can pull out of junctions without spinning, I can brake without setting the ABS off, and I can even stay in the same lane on the motorway without having to make constant course corrections as per Goodyear's "finest".

The sooner Vauxhall wise up and stop fitting this junk in the factory, the better.

Given 80% while driving a Vauxhall Signum 1.9 CDTI (215/50 R17 V) on mostly motorways for 37,000 easy going miles
Got a set of 4 put on my car July 2007. 16 months and 37,000 miles later, the fronts are down to the legal limit and the rear still have about 5.5mm left!

Can't grumble on the wear rate, they are great motorwa munchers, as long as you don't drive like a pillock. Bit pricey though at this size.

Looking for a couple of replacements for the front, wanted to try the falken fk452's but i'm put off slightly about the wear rate. Anyone any recommendations ??

Given 79% while driving a Nissan Micra 1.2 SX (175/55 R15 T) on a combination of roads for 6,000 spirited miles
The choice of tires in this size is quite limited, however considering the NCT5 is marketed as a low rolling resistance tire they grip surprising well, much better than the Dunlops and Continentals previously fitted. Braking, both wet and dry is noticable improved and cornering more surefooted.
