Uniroyal RainExpert Reviews - Page 5

Given 69% while driving a Vauxhall Vectra (195/65 R15 H) on a combination of roads for 6 easy going miles
I had four fitted to the car a while back, they are as said very good in the rain and very close in the dry considering the tread width which is wide. The ride is also very good and they hold their pressures well. Here it comes...But my fronts have nearly had it they are down to 3mm in just 5,600 mile these are the most wearing tire I have had to date on the front. I run the fronts 3psi above base pressure because the 65 profile just sits on the tread instead of standing on it, my rears are also 3 psi above base and are like brand new the buy again choice on this site I have rated low but would buy again for the rears.

My car does eat tires on the front but not to this extreme other 280 treadwear tires have gone much futher with me in the past I have a pro pressure gauge as well and have had it calibrated so the pressures are accurate. One thing to some of the other reviewers they do not come in 225/45/17 size have you confussed this tire with the Rainsport tire.

All in all I really like this tire but not on the front of my car because of the very high wear rate...my driving style is easy going I am 55 and not heavy on corners or braking some cars they just dont suit on the fronts my Vectra is one.

Given 86% while driving a Volkswagen Golf 1.9 Tdi (195/65 R15 T) on a combination of roads for 27,000 spirited miles
I came to this web site two years ago and chose these tires because of the reviews - they look like a car tractor tire - chunky! hence quiet a lot of road noise.
But! I've just done 30,000 miles on the front tires - never changed and I drive very aggressively!
I am so, so pleased! All the money Ive wasted in the past.
Just booked the car in for two new ones, heck I've just doubled the car value!!!:)

Given 96% while driving a Honda Accord (205/50 R16) on a combination of roads for 12,000 easy going miles
One does wonder about those who describe these tires wearing excessively fast. I have not found this and at 12,000 miles, over the year, the wear has been no more appreciable than I would expect from any tire. Tires are, by their very nature, a 'scarificial' component, (i.e. designed to wear out with usage). One suspects that those drivers experiencing heavy wear may not be monitoring their tire pressures as they should, and adjusting for the load they are carrying, in terms of number of passengers and/or weight in the boot for the journey. Speed, or lack of it should not be too much of a contributory factor to wear, but the means of getting to and from higher speeds will be. It is more likely that those who have found they are experiencing heavy wear are too fond of driving hard on the gas and hard on the brakes. From observations generally, I cannot help but notice the number of drivers who accelerate when they don't really need to,(usually overtaking at a point where the road calls for them to slow down), and who also brake un-necessarily,(going uphill towards a junction or other vehicle), rather than letting the incline reduce their speed. I always go by the general axiom, "...I have not gone to the trouble of spending money on petrol to now waste all this kinetic energy I have created by using my brakes...."

Given 84% while driving a Fiat Panda (225/45 R17) on a combination of roads for 5,000 average miles
A very good tire. Coming from Eco continental 3's (that came as standard) straight away grip improved 100%.
No longer were corners a question mark which our other cars could take at 60mph and the panda could only safely achieve 40.
Braking and wet grip also improved dramatically, this is by only changing the front two tires.
Progressiveness is poor but this may be down to the cars chassis/suspension which although is adequate, not the most sophisticated.
They are comfier and ever so quieter on the road, driving a small car this means a lot.
They are so good even though the back tires still have around 5k left, they are being changed to these.
At this tire size you cannot get much better, only the Firestone's beat them in dry conditions.

Given 87% while driving a Ford Fiesta (195/50 R15 H) on mostly country roads for 9,000 average miles
I have these tires for 14000 km.The grip in dry conditions is good, in wet is very good. Much better from the previous Bridgestone Turanza ER 300 I had. The consumption is better too.Driving normally the wear is OK, still like new. I would buy these again.

Given 80% while driving a Honda (175/70 R13) on a combination of roads for 2,000 spirited miles
Fitted these to the front of my 1991 Honda Civic.

Only 2,000 miles so cannot comment on wear. Quieter than my previous (Admiral) tires.

I do enjoy a fast corner (where safe to do so!) and grip is very good. Not sure about feedback as the PAS on my car robs much of the tire feel.

I was driving in the great hailstorm in July 2012 on some of the wettest roads I've ever encountered. Because traffic was quiet, I did some experimentation.

Ensuring there was no other road user about I tried out a few emergency stops, sometimes in half inch of water and also a few fast roundabouts.

No drama, skid or slew at all with just one exception. This was on a roundabout where the (budget clad) rear end kicked out whilst the Rain Experts stayed firm at the front.

I've just bought a second car and will certainly fit Rain Expert.

Given 57% while driving a Toyota Yaris (185/65 R14) on mostly town for 0 average miles
very comfortable tires but at the cost of soft sidewalls and poor feedback.
the grip in dry is a bit dissapointing, in wet they do pretty well, but you cant compare them to more sporty tires.
when pushed to the limit the grip wont just let go, but gives you plenty of warning, yet its so hard to feel anything because of the softness.

for the average driver an excellent tire but for someone who likes to go fast occasionally l wouldnt recommend them

Given 57% while driving a Saab Automobile 9 5 2.3 Turbo SE (215/55 R16 V) on mostly motorways for 7,000 easy going miles
Apart from the appalling rate of wear these tires seem pretty good. Most of my miles are main A roads, but the two front tires have lasted less than 9 months. I am not a fast driver, but the car is heavy (Sabb 9-5 estate).
I will not be buying any more.

Given 60% while driving a Renault Laguna 1.9 dCI (225/45 R17) on a combination of roads for 5,000 average miles
Had 4 of these fitted 5000 mileas ago ony Laguna 1.9 DCi. I am no boy racer, (60) and use mainly on country roads, a bit of town and a bit of autoroute. Front are almost down to the wear indicators. Rear are fine. Don't know what I'm doing wrong, but won't replace them with the same. Last tires were Hankook, and Kleber. I am sooo dissapointed.

Given 60% while driving a Peugeot 206 1.9 hdi (225/45 R17) on mostly motorways for 11,000 average miles
Fitted a pair to the front of my 206 September 2011. Plus points - stick like the proverbial to a blanket, more or less regardless of the weather. The minus - I have completely scrubbed them out to the point of being well into 'illegal territory' in about 9 months or roughly 11,000 miles. No I am not a boy racer (I'm mid 50s) nor are they on a 'go faster' hatchback, it's a Peugeot 206 diesel driven mostly on motorways at around the 65mph mark. Whilst they 'do what they say on the can' in terms of grip, this is clearly achieved by using a soft compound hence the, quite frankly, pretty poor lifespan. Won't be buying another set - not because they don't work but because it'll cost a fortune to keep replacing them! But if you have a deep enough wallet, they are hard to beat.
