Ford Focus ST170 Tire Review Highlights

Writing about the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3 given 89% (215-45-17-)
Driving on mostly country roads for 10000 spirited miles
For a performance FWD hatchback, this tire is really good for it.
Acceptable price, good road feedback, good wet grip, excellent tire wear.
But noise is little bit annoying, especially on a not really good quality road.

Bought these tires as I had 2 illegal tires and the other 2 were very close to the legal limit and I was short on money so got these fitted for around £250.00 inc balancing, tracking etc.

I was nervous about them, but for 'budget' tires they hold the road well and even going through shallow standing water hold their own. I drive on country roads and dual carriageways to get to work and the grip is excellent. I like to open my car up on the dual carriageway and it has always responded well to being driven hard on the bendy country roads. I get a decent amount of feedback from the tires and they absorb the shallow pot holes well, without feeling to hard.

Bottom Line, if your in pinch and need some cheap tires to tide you over then you can't do worse than a set of these.

Had these tire previously on my st, They are an excellent tire!
Compared with conti michelin and goodyear these are there abouts, Great dry handling, good in the wet, wear i found to be about the same as a conti/michelin etc. Great all around tire, For the price at £67 a corner from CAMSKILL 225-45-17w these are a bargain!

Writing about the Pirelli PZero Nero given 53% (205-45-16-)
Driving on a combination of roads for 10000 spirited miles
In dry it's okay, but in wet it just oversteers and understeers at the same time, so it's very hard to control.while taking corners it doesnt give you the trust of P zero.I fitted the neros because pirelli doesnt make regular p zero in this size. After regular p zero these tires are huge disappointment. Even toyo proxes t1r's were better in wet. Would never by again and will switch to michelin ps3.

Took ages for me to find a decent set of tires on a budget but went for these instead of real cheap ones due to safety in the wet. Had continental sport contacts on the car originally which were superb all round and would love to have had them again so these in comparison don't do too bad considering price. Not had them long enough to comment on wear but for all other areas this tire does the job. Not amazing but you feel safer and more confident than the cheap brands you never heard of. Comments mentioned about the noise is true, they are a bit more noisier than others but you can't have everything if you don't pay for it so I can settle with these purely for the what you get for your money. Very pleased.

Driving on mostly motorways for 43000 spirited miles
The dealer I bought my car from put a brand new set of these when I purchased my car. I was skeptical at first since I had never even heard of Event tires before. I must say they had pretty good durability - I had the assumption that they would only last around 10k miles but I finally changed the whole set after 43k miles in 3 years. As the tires were included in the purchase price, I cannot comment on value for money.

Good points:

Durability exceeded my expectations.

The strength is quite good, where I live, the roads are littered with potholes after our unusally cold winter and as much as I tried avoiding them, I still managed to catch some nasty potholes. The good thing is that the tires were not damaged.

Decent dry grip (for a somewhat budget tire), offering a respectably sharp turn-in. I recently had a blast through the Black Mountain pass in the Brecon Beacons (the famous A4069 road) and these tires gave me the confidence to press on.

Bad points:

Take extra care when driving in the wet! (seriously, at my local Tesco mini roundabout the car would understeer at 10 mph. Yes, 10mph off throttle.) However, it's a little better on bigger roundabouts where you don't need as much steering lock.

These tires can also be unpredictable in the wet, nearly got killed (totally my fault) when cornering on a slip road to join the M40. I took the bend at 60mph at which point it understeered and when I corrected myself the rear end snapped, sending me into a lift-off oversteer 360 degrees. As I said, again it was stupid of me to go that fast when joining a motorway, but be warned and slow down when driving in the wet with these tires. I drive an ST170, it doesn't have that much power compared with the fast cars of today, but the traction light comes on a lot in the wet when accelerating even at a sensible pace.

Motorway road noise is quite loud and you get droning sounds, so if you regularly go on long journeys, spend a little extra on something more comfortable.

Overall, they were reasonably ok I suppose, just not in the wet. As the saying goes, you get what you pay for - in my case since I didn't buy them as they were already on my car, but I would not buy them again.

I have replaced these with a set of Primewell PZ900 (apparently they are a subdivision of Firestone and they have a 'B' rating for wet grip according to the EU tire label) - £279 for a set of 4, including valves, balancing, nitrogen filling and insurance. I will review that set after I accumulate enough mileage.

Tire proved quite good when new but after a few miles the grip in the wet disapeared completely but lasted quite a while for a budjet tire

What an absolutely useless tire these are. I have purchased two cars in the last couple of years and have been unfortunate that both vehicles had these fitted. They are a dry road tire, that is it, show them a wet road and ask them to grip and they will refuse, and you don't need to be pushing them either. Theses tires are absolute crap, they are only fit to have chimps hanging from them!!
