Toyo T1R Reviews - Page 9

Given 56% while driving a Toyota MK3 MR2 Roaster (205/50 R15 V) on mostly country roads for 3,000 spirited miles
Had these recomended for the Mr2 Roadster, not much better than the nexen's fitted when I bought the car ( at least I got 7k out of them).

I must say the grip is top notch in most conditions, just can't live with the wear rate.

Unbelivable that the tires are shot at 3000 miles! In a light relativley low powered car, and yes I do " enjoy" the car as it was designed, but I tend to avoid power slides and racing starts!
I thought my Imprezza was poor, With only 5ooo miles on a set of Falkens but that had 250hp.
So next I will try so Yokhama Parada Spec 2 as the 509s on the front have only lost 1mmm in the last 5K.

Given 80% while driving a TVR griffith (245/45 R16 W) on a combination of roads for 15,000 spirited miles
Fitted to a TVR Griffith 500. Side walls are a little softer than the Bridgestone S03s they replaced but overall a very good all round performance tire.

Given 73% while driving a Toyota Celica SS3 Beams (205/50 R16 W) on mostly country roads for 40 spirited miles
A good tire for front wheel drives as the directional tread allows you to get out of a small slide with a fraction of throttle. Though theyre good in the wet, they do aquaplane, esp. when getting low on tread. Its more like they grip like hell and this can send your car into an unerving lurch when one side hits a puddle. A good tire for light cars but probably not stiff enough for a car 1300kg and above. Wear is shocking - 10000k's. Reasonable quiet

Given 61% while driving a MINI Cooper S (205/45 R17 W) on mostly country roads for 5,000 spirited miles
These tires are fantastic in the dry and stick in just about any situation when they have warmed up, however in the wet the car feels like its driving on ice, pulling away from standstill causes the traction control light to start flashing in my 200bhp Cooper S with the traction control off the wheels just spin and you go nowhere not to mention the inherent under steer. I have gone through the front pair in 5000 miles with a mix of spirited driving and general use.

Useless in heavy rain, good on dry roads. 2500 miles out of a pair.

Given 51% while driving a Ford Fiesta Zetec S (225/45 R17 V) on a combination of roads for 3,000 average miles
I've had T1-S tires before which were fantastic. BUT i had two T1-R's 195x45x16 fitted to my 2 year old Fiesta Sportvan after the car had been on the latest laser tracking machine and with no other faults of any kind with the vehicle itself. The rear tires are Michelin Pilot Sport 3's with 80% tread on them. MY OWN experience is that there is hardly any amount of wet grip with the front tires sliding regularly, to the point where I had to remove them with 80% of the tread left....not good....I don't carry much weight in the back of the van, so no 'raised front' issues can explain it. If you don't trust the tires on your vehicle, especially in the rain then its not safe to drive in my book. Two more Pilot Sport 3's going on the front very soon !!!

I really love this tires, they are perfect for my not so powerful little super mini, the grip is amazing, I would have preferred that they would last longer.

Given 51% while driving a Mercedes Benz CLK 320 Convertible (205/55 R16) on a combination of roads for 12,000 average miles
Replaced all 4 tires with T1R 12 months ago but have not been that impressed with them. In the dry they perform well but encounter any damp surface and I had to adjust my driving to the road conditions as I had no confidence in them. Even pulling away from a junction in the rain was enough to light up the ASR warning light on the dash. I was particularly disappointed with the life span, after 6 months and 6000 miles I had to rotate front to back as they were down to 3.5mm at the front (although to be fair it is a heavy 3.2 lump under the bonnet). On a positive note, the feedback was good from the tires and it was easy to tell when they were about to lose grip and ease off the throttle. Snow? - forget it!!! it was quicker to walk where ever I was going, but then again I suppose that's my fault for buying a German rear wheel drive :-)

Given 83% while driving a Toyota MK2 MR2 NA (225/55 R15 V) on a combination of roads for 10,000 average miles
Good tires for the price with great grip in wet and dry conditions, Although next to useless in snow!!! Impressed with the wear, done 10000miles and still half the tread left. Changed my cars feel beyond all recognition would definitely buy again!!
