Scoring Process
  1. Collect Test Data: Gather results from professional tire tests across multiple publications. Minimum 1 test(s) required.
  2. Normalize Positions: Convert test positions to percentile scores using exponential weighting (factor: 1.2).
  3. Apply Recency Weighting: More recent tests are weighted higher with a decay rate of 0.95.
  4. Incorporate User Reviews: Factor in user review data (minimum 5 reviews). Weight: 15%.
  5. Bayesian Smoothing: Apply Bayesian prior (score: 7, weight: 1.5) to prevent extreme scores with limited data.
  6. Calculate Final Score: Combine all components using normalization factor of 1.1. Max score with limited data: 9.5.

The Vredestein Quatrac establishes itself as a wet-weather specialist with substantial safety reserves in rainy conditions. This tire performs sovereignly across all weather conditions, with its standout feature being exceptional wet grip and aquaplaning resistance. It strikes an excellent middle ground in all conditions while maintaining predictable handling characteristics. The primary weakness is its above-average wear rate, which somewhat offsets its strong performance credentials.
1st/13
The Vredestein Quatrac emerges as the test winner and a true all-rounder that delivers balanced and safe performance across every surface condition. This tire excels particularly in wet conditions, offering the shortest braking distances and excellent aquaplaning resistance, making it exceptionally trustworthy when rain arrives. On snow, it performs admirably with strong traction and handling characteristics that inspire confidence in winter conditions. While it shows slightly longer braking distances on dry roads compared to some competitors, the Quatrac maintains composed handling and provides good ride comfort throughout. The tire's ability to find the perfect balance between summer and winter capabilities without significant compromises makes it an exemplary choice for drivers seeking year-round security and versatility.

Ask a question
November 26, 2020

Hi, I'm interested the vredestein quatrac tire but when I'm searching for these tires to buy I can only find either 'pro' or '5' written at the end. This review doesn't state which these are? Also I'm after 225/45r18 and 245/40 r18 size, does this tire exist in these sizes?

The 'Quatrac' is a new tire which replaces the Quatrac 5. Vredestein will be releasing new sizes of the Quatrac all the time so hopefully they'll release a tire in your size soon.
November 29, 2021

Hi, looking at the Vredestein Quatrac in 195/65 R15, would these be suitable for a classic car with tubes? I have spoked wire wheels, so need to use tubes, but do less than 2k miles/yr but in all conditions. Also, what speed rating would you recommend? i assume it effects side wall stiffness, my car only weighs 1043kg Kind regards, Mr Collins

Officially, I'd say no as tubeless tires are not meant for tubes due to friction. However, I have heard of people running similar tires with tubes on rally events etc.

Given 91% while driving a Dacia Duster 4x4 (205/65 R16) on mostly country roads for 6,000 easy going miles
Exceptional tire I mounted these on Dacia Duster 4x4 and grip is unlimited, I can floor the car in any conditions, dry wet and snow.
Vredestein always gives very good feedback and steering feel while also being comfortable, these are more comfortable and less sporty than the Quatrac PRO.
It's much cheaper than Michelin for example but quality is not far off and when you consider these tires last for 60-80tkm they're the best value possible because quality is great and price is good. After 15tkm the tread is like new so they'll last over 50tkm for sure (my Quatrac Pro on Audi A3 lasted almost 80tkm which is insane)
Would recommend without any doubt if you can get them cheaper than some Conti or Bridgestone (for negligible price difference these two still give slightly better performance)

Given 77% while driving a Honda Civic 1.8 (205/55 R16) on a combination of roads for 7 spirited miles
They grip surprisingly well for an all season tire in the dry and snow. I have these mounted on a 8th generation Honda civic sedan with the r18 engine and these tires have me absolutely glued to the ground. I replaced my old Goodyear eagle "all season" tire which had the snow performance of a summer tire in the snow and didn't even preform well in wet or dry. But back to the vredestein, I once was screwing around (dry, 65°f) taking a highway exchang ramp a bit too fast, I hit one rather sharp bend at probably 55+mph and didn't break traction for a second, no tire squeal or anything. Another time (30°f, snow) I had to go to work before the roads were plowed (about 4" of snow on the ground). I got geared up and headed out. The tires gripped very well. I would hit understeer going up steep hills that had thick slush underneath but I was able to pass an SUV barely going 8mph and once I got close to my work I was having an easier time than some 4wd trucks. And for the wet, what used to happen to me in my Goodyear's was that I would be at a stop and have a narrow opportunity to go so I would gun it, but my tires would peel out and I'd be stuck in the middle of the damn intersection going maybe 10mph. I almost got T boned from that once lol. Once I got the vredestein I tried to replicate this. For the first few weeks everytime it rained I would gun it from stops trying to break traction with no luck. Eventually I got frustrated and lined my front tires up on a freshly painted soaking wet stop line and slammed the gas pedal. I was able to get a "squeak" on the paint but once I was on pavement I launched right off. Overall, for me these tires are perfect, everything I want without being too expensive. I paid about $750 USD for these to be mounted and balanced which is about what I expected.

Given 81% while driving a Opel Mokka B (215/65 R16) on a combination of roads for 22,000 average miles
This is the mid-life review after 35000km. The tread depth is surprisigly even - 6.5mm front/driven wheels and 6.7mm rear wheels. At this wear rate it seems the tires will survive past 70000km until they are worn to 4mm depth. Tires are still quiet, comfortable and confidence inspiring in majority of conditions. The driven wheels have some smaller chunks of tread blocks teared and block edges rounded. Non-driven look surprisingly good with sharp block edeges. I have just switched fron-to-rear to even out the tires life. The car is Opel Mokka B - daily driver - schools runs, to/from work, errands and occasional long trips. Approximately 70% city and suburbs driving and 30% motorway and the car is rarely fully loaded.

Given 83% while driving a Opel Mokka B (215/65 R16) on for 37,000 miles
I have been using Vredestein Quatracs for 4 years now. They have done 60,000 km so far (mostly commuting and school runs, but also several longer trips). The tires still have plenty od tread (4-5 mm). During this winter they will reach the winter indicators and they will definitely last through the next summer, so it will be more than 4.5 years and approximately 70,000 km.
They are very good, quiet, very grippy in the wet and fine even in the occasional snow. I would definitely recommend them. It is difficult to comment on handling or road feedback, as the car is really not handling-focused and the tire sidewall is huge. On the other hand the comfort is very nice. The only negligible drawback is that the tread blocks like to tear a little more then ussual and I don't drive in any off-road conditions at all. It does not seem to have any adverse effect on the performance though. In comparison to other cars in the family I have seem similar problem on Pirelli Cinturato SF3. The Bridgestone Turanza 6 AS and Toyo Celsius AS2 seem to be more resistant to this.
Overall I have been very satifsied and I can recommend them.

Given 82% while driving a Suzuki Baleno (185/55 R16) on mostly country roads for 7,000 average miles
I purchased a full set Nov 24 so I've driven with them for a full year and am very happy with their performance. I've used them in snow on a few occasions and provide better grip than the Bridgestone A005's that they replaced. Saying that, both tires are way superior to the factory fitted summer Bridgestone's which were hopeless in snow and ice. I much prefer the Vredesteins for winter than the A005's but I think for the A005's provided better handling for normal conditions. I would definitely buy them again but may try Bridgestone Turanza when I need to replace.

Given 86% while driving a Skoda Octavia estate (205/55 R16) on a combination of roads for 34,000 average miles
I am very satisfied with these tires. After 3.5 years and 55000 km they still hold on strong. Grip is very balanced in all conditions. (The car had Goodyear Vector gen 2 on it when I bought it. They were almost dangerous in wet at 4 years/50000 kms.)
I was planning to replace the Quatracs this autumn, but they still have 6 mm tread left. Thought I'd give them a chance. Now winter is starting and it still has quite decent grip on cold roads. Yestersay it was snowing and there was no drama in the slush. I can feel the weaker wet grip on painted road surfaces. There you can break traction in first gear very easily. So probably this is their last winter and I will replace them next autumn.
Dry rot is minimal, but micro cracks on the tread are visible if you watch closely. Sidewalls still look perfect. I think it is normal at this age.
These tires were very silent when new. Now they have a little noise on highway, but still not bad. Wind and engine noise are still dominating at speed.
Comfort wise they transfer quite a lot of vibration on cobble stones, but I can't compare it to other tires on the same car.
Road feedback is far from a good summer tire but that is expexted. These tires are not made for spirited driving.
I will probably buy the same tires next year if Vredestein does not some out with a new one. They have proven to me that one tire can do it all.

Given 88% while driving a Opel Mokka B (215/65 R16) on a combination of roads for 35,000 average miles
I have used Quatrac for 4 years now and after 57000 km they still have 5 mm of tread depth. They will definitely survive the upcoming winter and the next summer. So far, I have been very satisfied with the tires, they seem to handle all conditions pretty well. I have not driven them in very snowy conditions as we do not get a lot of snow in Central Europe anymore. Surprisingly, it has won the 2025 Autobild SUV test and scored good in Autobild car test even though it is not the newest tire anymore. I would definitely recommend Quatrac and it will definitely be a hot candidate next Autumn when I will be shopping for the next set of tires for the car.

Given 39% while driving a Vauxhall Astra Coupe 1.8 (195/65 R15) on mostly town for 3,000 average miles
On the positive side the tire is very comfortable but unfortunately there is absolutely a lack of grip in both dry and wet conditions ! This black circle called a tire is an absolute nightmare and waste of money! In my 35 years of driving I have never had such a really bad tire !!! I won't be spending no more money on Vredestein tires !

Given 68% while driving a Opel Karl (185/55 R15) on mostly country roads for 30,000 average miles
Driven for almost 1000 km on an Opel Karl. In this particular size and on this particular car they are noisy as hell between 40 and 60 km/h. It's almost as if you're on some kind of coarse 4x4 or agricultural vehicle. Other than that they are fine. In a road vehicle on regular roads I wasn't in any emergency which basically is the only time when you're going to notice the small differences there are between tires nowadays.

Given 48% while driving a Mercedes Benz X253 GLC350d (255/45 R20) on mostly country roads for 0 average miles
I found that the tires performed very well, although recent winters have been devoid of snow, so it so it is difficult to give the full picture, Wear is a different issue. The last two tires fitted have not lasted well. The the first (tire dated 2020) is the recipient of an MOT advisory note due to cracking around the tire edge the second, which was made in by Vredestein in 2023, still has 6mm of tread depth and is going the same way! So between 2 and 5 years life is not acceptable.

Given 84% while driving a Mercedes Benz GLE 350de (235/45 R20) on a combination of roads for 3,000 average miles
So, i have those tires installed on my GLC350. The rims came with 2 new all season tires and i have purchased additional 2. When i saw the texture of the rubber i thought that those tires will not be good for snow especially that the rims are big and car is very heavy,.over 2tones. My experience so far, tested on dry, wet and snow. On dry and wet the car handles wery well even at high speeds and surprisingly tires are silent. Tested them on the snow recently Poland and Slowakia. No issue to navigate trough snow 5-10 cm on road not a single time anti slippery system came on. One minus ive noticed, turning may be a little bit more tricky but holds well if you turn at low speed. Exiting from a parking lot full of snow without an issue ( 4x4 helps also) I do recommend those tires i believe they are a very good compromise. Are dedicated winter tires better, from top companies( Continental Pirelli Good Year) absolutely, are dedicated medium class winter tires better ( Fulda, Hankok) is questionable. When both me and my mechanik saw the steucture of tire we were sure it will not perform well in winter but it seems our impression was wrong.

Given 85% while driving a Alfa Romeo 147 (205/55 R16) on a combination of roads for 4,000 average miles
I am pleasently surprised by these tires. Untill now I drove the tires only during autumn, winter and spring time. I haven't experienced the tires on any hot summer days, so maybe in the future I will give an update. I live in the Netherlands where it rains a lot. The tires behave really good in the wet. Especially in the cold wet days. I love to drive them. In the dry the tires are really good but they excell more in the wet.

A week ago I drove in the snow and cold conditions in Germany. In the hills in Sauerland I was astonished by the tires. While the snow slowy but steadily started to form a blanket on the road, the tires kept there grip and the safe and secure feeling. They brought my wife and me safe to the hotel while there was probably already 10 cm snow. The following days it was still freezing but the tires did a great job. No unpleasant surprises or anything else. I am really glad I bought these tires.

Honestly I haven't kept an eye on the fuel usage. But I didn't notice any big differences between the Quatracs and the summer tires. I guess it's okay.
There doesn't seem to be any wear. The profile still looks like new.

Conclusion: I highly recommend the Quatracs. They are great in the wet. Steady performance in the dry and safe and secure in the snow. Big shoutout to Tirereviews because the reason I bought them was due to their All season tire test.

Given 91% while driving a Mazda CX 3 (215/60 R16) on a combination of roads for 21,000 average miles
I have driven 35 000 km, the front tires have 4,5 mm remaining, the rear tires have 5,5 mm remaining. I've driven in all types of surfaces (even a proper muddy offroad) and I've driven for 2 years during 4 seasons in Slovakia. The performance they can perform on snow mud is amazing. I don't have a single complaint about the tires. They grip fantastically on water, they only skid in really extreme manoeuvres, that's way beyond my driving ability. They are comfortable, they filter out bumps very well. I would buy again, the manufacturer has created the perfect product.

I bought the tires for my 2016 Nissan Pathfinder. This past winter was mild(Chicago)in snow totals but rainy and cold. The tires performed spectacularly and looked great after tire dressing applied (Guigiaro design on sidewall)!

Given 64% while driving a Hyundai Accent (195/65 R15) on a combination of roads for 8,000 average miles
These tires are my third brand of all season tires, previously using two sets of Michelin Crossclimates and Continental All Season Contact. They served me quite well, while also giving very good longevity (Continentals especially) and reasonable performance. Inspired by vastly positive reviews of Vredesteins I decided to give them a go as my next tire set. After a break in period of 500 km I started noticing mostly disappointing performance of the tires compared even to my old summer sets that I used during the whole year (my area of the country rarely gets snow even in winter, but on a few occasions I ended up having to drive in snow with a summer set). Compared to Continentals dry grip and handling are noticeably worse and road noise is more pronounced (this doesn't really bother me). Lateral wet grip is so bad to the point that my hand is always ready to pull the handbrake while turning, even in the mildest corners in city driving well within urban speeds (read as low as 20km/h). Only area that seems on par with the Continentals is longitudinal wet grip (as in straight line braking and aquaplaning). Moving from stop in city traffic is comically bad even on small slopes and travelling using highway speeds is uninspiring to say the least (and borderline scary in wet conditions). Road feedback is about average. On the positive side, during the 12 000 km I've been using these tires, thread doesn't seem to be wearing fast, so longevity could be good. As I said before, my area doesn't get snow or ice in the winter so I can't speak in terms of handling and performance in those conditions. Truth be told, after performance shown in regular conditions I wouldn't dare to use the car even for the shortest of drives in snow. I tried varying the pressure to try and remedy some of the problems, but to no avail as the tire performance gets even worse. To conclude, this review is based entirely on MY experience with MY car, so take it with a grain of salt. I suspect the main problem with these tires is that they are probably made market specific and in this case, to a lower quality standard (these are made in Hungary, but I believe that sets for, let's say "more western" parts of Europe, are made in Netherlands - I live in Croatia for what it's worth). I had similar experience using identical models of Michelin Energysavers, one set made in France and the other in Romania. You can hazard a guess which set caused a slowmotion crash turning into a wet corner while driving 20 km/h. With all things considering, to me these specific tires I have on my car are a total disappointment and under no circumstances would I buy them again. I got into a few dangerous situations as a result of bad performance from them and will probably change to another brand despite tires being only a year old. You may have a totally different experience, as a lot of users do so it seems. but to me these tires are a big no-no...
