Michelin Primacy HP Reviews - Page 7

Given 81% while driving a Vauxhall Vectra 3.0 V6 Diesel (215/50 R17 V) on a combination of roads for 72,000 spirited miles
Have tried many other makes over the years, I've found the Michelins to always be good in the wt, good in the dry, stable, relatively quiet and good wearing. I've got a Vectra Sri with the big V6 diesel up front and have got over 24k miles from the fronts (without driving like my dad!!!), they are now just about on the limit markers and are now being replaced with the same - though the Primacy HP's in 215/50r17 size are very very (almost impossible) to find. I will always fit Michelins to my cars, yes they are pricey but you get what you pay for in this world.

Given 93% while driving a Vauxhall Vectra cdti (150) (215/55 R16 V) on a combination of roads for 28 average miles
Absolutely awsome.
By far the best tires i've ever owned on a car. Longevity (28k miles on front), qiuet, smooth, great grip in the dry and for the first time ever never caught out in the wet.
Negatives - well, i guess you get what you pay for as there expensive.

Swapped out for a pair of Nexen N Blue eco's so we'll see if the michelins really are twice as good.

Given 89% while driving a Citroën C5 (225/45 R17) on a combination of roads for 0 average miles
Recently bought a new Citroen C5 with 4 of these puppies fitted from new. Got a shock when I realised that the tires that come with the car are 245/45/18 - which are a bigass tire indeed. Anyway, the secret with Michelin tires is not to overinflate them stick to around 35psi, not 40 pounds as recommended by a lot of tire dealers. If you overinflate, the noise and wet weather performance goes down the drain. Michelin are a low pressure type tire - the days of pumping them up like heck are over. I intend to replace these primacys with the same type - except in that size I'm looking at $550.00 Australian dollers per tire - OUCH!

Given 64% while driving a Subaru Forester S Turbo (225/45 R17) on mostly country roads for 25,000 average miles
I have just got rid of 4 of these on my car and I an glad. These were the noisiest tires I have ever had and made driving my subaru forester unpleasant. On anything but the smoothest surface they produced a horrible roar. I replaced them before they were worn out with Avom ZV5 and the car is a pleasure to drive again, I also get 4MPG extra and a lovely smooth ride. I would never recommend michelin tires.

Given 63% while driving a Kia Motors ceed (225/45 R17 W) on a combination of roads for 10,000 average miles
These were original factory fit, bought a replacement pair but they have worn completely after only 10000 miles of general driving. Good grip in dry and rain, and reasonable in winter too. Very disappointed with wear so would not buy again.

Given 87% while driving a Alfa Romeo 159 (225/50 R17 W) on a combination of roads for 31,000 spirited miles
Excellent tire both in dry and wet. Very good grip and excellent at the limit. Very good braking and average noise. Extremely good wear (after 48K klm). A top all rounder. Very expensive at 225/50/17 (around 200 euros per piece). My next tire will be the Fulda Sportcontrol (at 165 euros/tire in Greece)

Too expensive, there are better value for money tires available eg Kumho Ecsta.

Given 86% while driving a Renault Espace MKIV DCI (225/55 R17 W) on a combination of roads for 95 average miles
The car has been mainly used for work carrying myself, at least one crew member, sometimes three plus our equipment averaging 50kg. This is my fourth espace and is the first one that I feel confident will stop ok in the wet! ( due to the larger wheels/tires? ). All the espace models have been fitted with michelin extra load tires but this is the best so far. I'm on the third set at 95,000 miles with about 10,000 left. My only gripe is the cost of these tires.

Given 83% while driving a Citroën C5 (215/55 R16 W) on a combination of roads for 12,000 spirited miles
I usually fit Michelins to all my Citroens and after trying a few other brands, have found that the C5 really does suit them.

I find these Primacy HPs offer very good dry drip, a reasonably quiet ride, decent ride quality and very good wet grip.

Grip in the dry is excellent, its very progressive and you really have to be pushing very fast through bends to have the start of understeer. Wet grip is very good too, they grip very well during wet cornering and when they do start to let go its progressive again. Some tires are all grip and then nothing, these are predictable. They could be better in standing water, the Toyo T1-Rs I had fitted at one point were superior for aquaplaning.

Compared to my previous Michelin Primacy Pilots, these Primacy HPs do have less steering feel and don't seem to have made up for that in a better ride quality. They are superior in ride quality to the Goodyear Excellence tires I tried, which were awful tires!

Wear rates I find excellent, its a heavy diesel car with a lot of torque and I drive spiritedly and press on around bends. I got 18K miles from my last pair (Michelin pilots) and expect to get similar from these. They lasy longer than any other brand I have tried on C5s, they suit the car nicely and grip well. Well worth the money in my opinion.

I notice there are a good few Citroen C4 Picasso owners complaining of poor wear with these tires. However its quite well known now that those cars toe in at the rear, making all 4 tires wear out in a very similar mileage.

I might have a change next time, maybe Uniroyal Rainsport2s or Conti PremiumContact5s. However I might go for the new Michelin Primacy HP3s.

Given 57% while driving a Ford S Max (235/45 R18 W) on a combination of roads for 13,000 average miles
These have just been replaced on the front of my S-MAX lasting 13000 down to 2mm. Once at 3-4 mm wet weather use was very poor. Aqua planing was very bad leading me to really slow down below the flow of traffic. They have been replaced with Continental Sport Contact that feel a lot more responsive.
