235/45 17 Tire Review Highlights

Bridgestone Potenza Sport rated 70% while driving a Audi S3
Driving on mostly country roads for 1500 average miles
Grip is out of this world in the dry and wet and they're so sharp on the steering, however the wear is really bad. 1500 miles and a track day and both fronts were done. Don't use them on track.

Pirelli Cinturato All Season SF3 rated 81% while driving a Honda Civic 1.5T
Driving on mostly country roads for 1500 spirited miles
Pretty impressed with these, but they do have some limitations. I replaced some Bridgestone full winter tires with these and they don't have the snow grip of that full winter, which probably stands to reason, but it's not a huge distance off it. What they do well is limit the float that some winter tires come with when the car moves around on the tread block, it's still there, but tolerable. Some winter tires really are unnerving for that and I'm sure going to an all season has mitigated an amount of this.
As I'm using these effectively like a set of winter tires, I'm not wholly bothered by dry grip in the higher temps, these aren't a patch on my Goodyear ays 6's, but they're ok for the dryer winter days that they will encounter. Comfort wise, they are pretty good. Road noise on the civic isn't that well suppressed and these tires are definitely quiet compared to any thing else I've had on, and I've had a fair amount of brands on this car. One thing they do though is best described as sing to you when you really start to lean on them, not annoying, but noticeable.
I can't comment on wear as yet due to the lack of mileage. Overall, as a replacement for a premium winter tires, I'm very happy. They get you going in the snow, stop you pretty well and they do inspire some confidence when you want to press on.

Triangle EffeXSport rated 87% while driving a Audi 3,0 tdi quattro sport
Driving on mostly country roads for 5000 average miles
Had these on before on a previous car for 2 years, had a full set fitted in August on my A4, I hit a boulder on the road at 60mph and surprisingly it was still in tact, some damage but still held up, definitely durable and got me home at the end. Over inflation did have a major wear effect on it previously on my Quattro though so maybe that’s only thing I can complain about

Goodyear Vector 4Seasons rated 57% while driving a Volkswagen Passat CC
Driving on mostly town for 10000 easy going miles
initially i was very pleased, normal road noise, and quite acceptable all round behavior. Fitted on a FWD Passat CC with 250bhp, driven in the quite hot Mediterranean environment (last few years are with quite hot summer and quite moderate winters). In highway you instantly felt that they are not like summer tires, but still they have been quite ok. Road noise at quite acceptable levels (not a lot worse to my previous summer Dunlops). Dry handling and braking acceptable but not at par the summer tires, and also the same for wet conditions, but all these were expected. In general, the impressions were on the quite positive side, until these couple of months... Tires fitted exactly 3 years ago and i now experience big chunks of the rubber coming off the front tires! The tread depth is not bad at all with minimal wear on the 10000 miles i have been driving them, but it is crazy that i see big pieces of rubber coming off!!! Waiting for a new Pirelli Cinturato SF3 set to arrive next week to change them, and see how this goes.

Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 6 rated 87% while driving a Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VIII MR
Driving on mostly country roads for 2000 spirited miles
I have an Evo 8 MR, I have always had Bridgestone RE003's as I know these tires worked well enough on the car and it was a safe call for me, since changing out tires isn't a cheap exercise. However I was looking to change to PS5's for this car, but these Asym 6's came up on sale for around $600 for all 4, I just couldn't say no. These tires have greatly improved my car especially over the RE003, safe to say I will never be purchasing RE003's again. The dry grip on these is amazing and at cornering speeds where the RE003's would screech, these tires are silent.
The wet grip on these are day and night, although I was in an AWD car I had to tread lightly in the wet as RE's would slip very very easy. I can now almost drive like it's dry in wet conditions.

Continental ExtremeContact DWS 06 PLUS rated 87% while driving a Saab Automobile 9 3 Aero 2.8T V6
Driving on a combination of roads for 12000 spirited miles
I came from a BFGoodrich G-Force Sport Comp-2 at 240 treadwear that lasted less than 38 000 kilometers (24,000 miles) so I wanted a sticky tire that could last a couple of years. The Continental Extreme Contact DWS 06 Plus had a great balance between treadwear and performance. Wet traction was also a concern on my last tire.

Considering the G-Force as the best tire I have tried yet
Higher is better

- BFGoodrich G-Force Sport Comp-2
(8/10 overall in satisfaction)
Comfort : 4
Grip : 10
Noise : 3
Steering weight : 10
Steering feel : 10
Steering sharpness (initial turn-in) : 10

- Continental EC DWS 06 Plus
(8/10 overall satisfaction) (equal)
Comfort : 9 (way better, not even close)
Grip : 10 (feels quite sticky)
Noise : 8 (you hear almost nothing)
Steering weight : 5
Steering feel : 8 (once you are in a stable corner, the steering feels good)
Steering sharpness (initial turn-in) : 7 (not on train tracks anymore, but compensated by the ease of turning / lack of steering weight)

They are excellent tires in the rain, virtually no difference in tire feel or grip between dry and wet condition during daily commute. Comfortable over rough roads and bumps too. Although it is a UHP A/S, its grip is comparable to a UHP summer tire.

In terms of feel, it is not comparable to a proper UHP summer tire. During high speed or high load curves, you can feel the sidewalls wobble a bit, which needs getting used to.

In the end, I'm being picky. They are really great tires.

Maxxis Premitra Snow WP6 rated 83% while driving a Volkswagen Passat B7
Driving on mostly country roads for 9000 spirited miles
Confidence inspiring tire. I chose this tire for its exceptional wet handling. Nowadays we didn't see a lot of snow in the winter however (because of high yearly mileage) I didn't want to buy an all season tire just yet. I made an excellent choice in my opinion for these type of conditions.

Maxtrek MAXIMUS M1 rated 87% while driving a Ford ba falcon
Driving on mostly town for 9000 average miles
I have had a few brands on my 2005 Ford BA XR6, these Maxtrek,, Maximus M1 235/45 R17, have out preformed all of them except for one, the Pirelli P7, but these Maximus M1’s have out lasted them all, if I have one critisim it is they do have a little louder road noise,,,, I will be buying again, that’s for sure

Vredestein Wintrac Pro rated 86% while driving a Honda Civic 1.5T
Driving on a combination of roads for 25000 spirited miles
Very good deal, performance is really good in the dry and wet, clear feel of road feedback. In fresh snow, 10-15cm deep, they tend to struggle a bit when starting from a complete stop or on a hill, but as soon they are rolling the snow traction is really good.

Michelin Primacy 4 rated 69% while driving a Holden Ute VU SS
Driving on mostly country roads for 18641 spirited miles
These Michelins are very predictable and reliable. For reference, my front-heavy Ute produced 220.9rwkw (296.2hp) on a Dyno Dynamics Dyno and is now likely closer to 235rwkw (315hp).

At this power level, they offer amazing grip in the dry. Full-throttle acceleration from a standstill won’t break traction in a straight line. Full throttle from a stop while turning or purposefully kicking the clutch will see them spinning but still accelerating rapidly, quickly requiring a shift into 2nd gear. Under hard braking, ABS is never needed, with the exception of on gravel.

The combination of high torque and little weight over the rear axle isn’t ideal in the wet. As expected, heavy acceleration will cause these Primacy 4’s to lose traction easily in wet conditions.

That said, I do wish they offered slightly more wet traction. However, for everyday driving in the wet, they’re still acceptable and always predictable. There’s enough grip with smooth throttle inputs, and axle tramp/wheel hop gives plenty of warning when traction is about to be lost.

When purposefully sliding the rear of the vehicle in the wet, control is excellent. Simply lifting off the throttle quickly brings the slide to a stop before it goes further than intended.

The tires have been fitted for approximately 30,000km and are due for replacement. I’m happy with this, considering I paid $700 for all four tires, regularly engage in spirited driving, and deal with the excessive camber and toe wear that these models are known for.

Maxxis HP M3 rated 40% while driving a Audi A3 2.0T quattro
Driving on mostly motorways for 20000 spirited miles
I purchased a used audi a3 and the dealership sold me the car with these installed brand new... and let me tell you they are among the worst I've ever had in any vehicle. They advertise 60,000 km treadlife but after 22k I've driven on these, they are down to 1mm and I have to replace after just 8 month. Save yourself the hassle and get a decent tire for $50 a tire more. The value and wear life alone will make up for it

Bridgestone Turanza T005 rated 58% while driving a Lexus GS350 AWD
Driving on a combination of roads for 0 miles
These tires don’t last. Had to replace at around 10,000 miles. Inner tread wear was extreme.
