195/50 16 Tire Review Highlights

RoadX RXMOTION H11 rated 39% while driving a Ford Fiesta Mk7.5
Driving on mostly country roads for 17000 spirited miles
Important points about these tires:
1. Wet braking and handling towards the end of life, combined with the increase in aquaplaning activity as they wear low severely hinders progress.
2. This summer compound goes really hard bellow about 5'C.
3. The tires loose pressure evenly at a rate of about 1psi per month in the beginning and they loose about 1psi per week towards the end.

Tire wear:
1. At about 12,000 miles, as a result of my driving style, the wear on the NSF tire shoulder is excessive.
2. At about 15,000 miles, the wet weather handling is progress hindering and the aforementioned shoulder is pretending to be a racing slick.
3. At about 17,000 There is an average of about 3-4mm of wear left and I can not wait to get rid of them.

Other noteworthy things:
1. The tires loose traction on any amount of progressive throttle input in the lower gears if wet and cold.
2. The tires hold most tire dressings very well and they look good.
3. Driving on fresh show is fine, but driving on compacted snow or ice is hopeless, I ended up buying special snow chains to fit my cars low profile wheel arch.
4. They taught me what I need in a tire, and its an all season, water clearing monster, so I can make maximum safe progress in all conditions.

Personally I will not be fitting them again, but they are cheep and if all you do is plod around town they might be right for you.

General G Max AS 05 rated 86% while driving a Toyota Yaris
Driving on mostly country roads for 7000 spirited miles
These are my favorite 3 season tires for my modified Yaris. The turn-in feel rivals track day tires. I actually used to track on these tires and they were just fantastic given what type of tire they are. They are firm but not too stiff. I briefly tried another brand of tires when my first set of AS05s wore out and it just ruined the car for me, I actually stopped driving it as much. Then I bought another set when they went on clearance to make room for the new AS07. I did not get the 7s as I read they were not as good and sharp as the 5s. Getting them back on the car was like old hat. It all came right back and I started enjoying the car again. I generally do not leave them on for snow as I have snow tires on the original wheels but the 2 times Ive been caught in snow they were manageable enough.

Prestivo PV S1 rated 55% while driving a Toyota Urban Cruiser
Driving on mostly country roads for 15000 average miles
Tires are 6 and 5 years old done 15k 5mm tread left but perished and dangerous. Failed MOT had to change the fronts a year earlier. Avoid not worth the money tires dated 5217 and 0818

Goodyear Eagle F1 Sport rated 84% while driving a Suzuki Swift 1.4
Driving on a combination of roads for 25000 spirited miles
These are my second set of these Eagle F1's. The first set lasted me almost 40k until the treads were down to about 50%. Even though the grip was there but ride was getting quite harsh which were not helped by my stiff suspension. Dry grip is amazing, you can take any corners with these rubbers. They just stick to the tarmac, period. Wet grip too is phenomenal, you can drive in confidence in the wet. I once hit 180km/h with two elderly passengers in the car and there were unperturbed! They wear quite fast though but as UHP's its expected, but you will smile every time you take a corner and leave much more powerful cars behind. Seriously underrated tires in my opinion.

Yokohama Advan Sport V105 rated 87% while driving a Mazda MX 5 1.5 2015
Driving on mostly country roads for 24000 spirited miles
Supplied as OE by Mazda on the Mk4 MX-5 1.5. Very enjoyable tire for a mainly fair weather car. Good dry balance. I love this tire, which make the MX-5 feel quite darty and reponsive and have just replaced the original 4 at nearly 24,000 miles, slightly early because one was written off by a puncture. They still had c. 3mm left on them.

Subjectively would say they are noisy, and despite being on a fairly compliant car they are a bit jiggly on a poor surface at low speeds, probably due to the stiff sidewall.

Yokohama Advan Sport V105 rated 87% while driving a Mazda MX 5 1.5 2015
Driving on mostly country roads for 23000 spirited miles
These tires were supplied as OE for the Mazda MX-5 ND 1.5. They still have 3mm tread at 23,000m, wear has been equalised by occasional rotation. They seem to be optimal for the MX-5 with great dry balance and plenty of dry grip. What the absolute performance is in the wet I couldn't say, it's a summer car and I always drive to poor conditions, but I have never had any surprises on wet roads.

Steering and turn in are consistent and sharp, I really like the feel and have loved driving the car for the last 6 years. This might be the best tire for this car, certainly for fair weather use. The sidewalls are very stiff which presumably accounts for the agile feel of the steering. There are few 'sporty' tires available in this size and rather than go for a premium touring tire from Goodyear/Michelin/Continental, which might perform better on measurements overall, I have chosen to fit the same tires again.

Subjectively the tires are quite noisy, and ride at low speed can be jiggly - not important for me in this application. I'm glad they are still available. The V105 has reportedly been replaced by the V107 but that does not seem to be available in 196/50R6.

Falken ZIEX ZE310 EcoRun rated 81% while driving a Nissan almera gti
Driving on mostly country roads for 8900 spirited miles
Very impressive tire. Most impressive is that I use it on a car whose only electronic on it is the ECU. No abs, no esp, no trc, no nothing... Almera N15 2.0Gti slightly modified outputting 161hp now, sending on front wheels 138.8 of them. A set of H&R and KYB excel Gs, merged with front and rear tower brace, along with front fender bars, trying to make things safer. Having in mind all the above written, I feel that "communication" between driver and tires is a bit pricier than with all new era electronic parafernalia 2020+ cars. First of all, and I think my 50% value, is that these tires are highly predictable. They do almost nothing without inform you first. You know some tenths of sec before when the tires and which of them are to break traction point, through steering or full bucket seat I use forces. Dry braking performance (remember no ABS) is highly impressive and wheel blocking rarely occurs (F: 36psi/R: 33psi) on average+ tarmac. On slippery one, you must use your mind to brake optimally. On wet braking (grippy average+ tarmac) braking force is limited by aquaplaning resistance which I found to be a bit higher from average. Nothing special, just a safe wet braking. I don't know how do they name exactly this compound, but I found 310s very grippy with plenty of feedback on mountain b-roads. Being not exactly an everyday driver (I use my N15 mostly in weekends and mostly on b-roads) concerning this car, tread has been reduced by 2mm during first 4.000mi. But that's nothing special on my N15 gti, as I use it as mentioned above (an everyday Qashqai j11 1.7dci is my daily driven one). Over all 310s ecorun are pretty impressive during fast driving too, apart from a good comfort set. Their tread compound collaborates perfectly with a nonAbs etc car. Weel done Japs.

Kumho Ecsta HS51 rated 83% while driving a Renault Unknown
Driving on a combination of roads for 25000 average miles
I bought a set of 4 of these in 2016, prompted by a financially painful pot-hole experience, which made me reluctant to spash out on a replacement set of Michelins, which this was - and our three other cars are - equipped with. They were just as quiet, and satisfactory in wet and dry conditions (but untested in snow), given I don't push hard in corners, but do maintain momentum while generally averaging 60+ mpg. I swapped fronts to rears, and achieved about 25,000 miles from the set, and changed when they were down to around 2mm. Much lower mileage than I get from the usual tires, but less at stake in this pot-hole strewn country. One tire recently developed cracks on the inner sidewall, which would have been an MOT failure, if I hadn't been able to swap the spare there and then. I can't be sure about the cause of the cracking, which deveIoped on a rear tire, I've repalced the front tires with Michelins again, but have just fitted HS52s to the rear axle, to see how they fare, hoping that they do as well or better than the HS51s, and will be inspecting the inner sidewall more closely on this set.

GT Radial Champiro FE1 rated 64% while driving a Toyota Yaris Mk4 Hybrid 1.5 (XP210, M15A FXE)
Driving on mostly country roads for 25000 average miles
While decent grip and resonable road feedback, they are very noisy and got worn out in about 25.000 miles on a small hatchback. I won't buy again, there are better alternatives at the same price or bit more.

Bridgestone Turanza ER33 rated 63% while driving a Toyota Yaris
Driving on a combination of roads for 30760 spirited miles
Sometimes great, sometimes bad Very good cornering, just as you feel you're going to lose grip, it digs in and pulls you through the corner. Lasted well, just more than 49500 km. Never got a puncture or flat. Around the 30000 km range, I noticed that the tire started to lightly crack around the side wall, this concerned me but apparently it was normal and safe. Road noise was very bad especially on the highway at 120km/h and above. The cabin would just be filled with road noise, you can barely hear your passenger speak, granted this largely may be related to my car, but the tires made it worse. I enjoyed these tires for their cornering, but their price is outrageous in my home country so I’m switching to Dunlop SP Sport LM705 tires.
