225/50 17 Tire Review Highlights

Nankang Sportnex AS2 Plus rated 60% while driving a Volvo V70 2.0D
Driving on a combination of roads for 12000 easy going miles
I bought a set of 4 Nankang AS2+ tires for summer use in April 2023, the ride is comfortable, the grip in the dry is faur, but lacking in the wet. I can not comment on winter performance, as from November to the end of March they are swapped out for a set Kumho IZen KW27 winter tires. My gripe is the poor tire wear, after only 10,000 miles of very steady driving on a mix of urban and rural roads, with very little motorway use, the treads are down to 4 mm, and this is with rotating use of front to rear. I will likely have to exchange the whole set before 15,000 miles.

Falken Azenis FK510 rated 87% while driving a Mercedes Benz C200 w205
Driving on a combination of roads for 6000 spirited miles
I have fk510 on a c200 2020
The dry grip is good but in the wet the grip is super solid, in difficult rainy conditions i really felt safe with it.
We have another car with the Goodyear oem original mercedes ones ( c200 2021) and the driving experience is the same although the GY ones are more expensive
Maybe the only negative thing is that I don't think they're helping the mileage since they're very grippy.
Highly recommened

Pirelli P7 AS Plus 3 rated 90% while driving a Honda 1.6 I DTEC
Driving on mostly country roads for 6500 easy going miles
I bought these tires hoping they would be quieter than the OEM Hankook's. They do seem to be a little quieter and way smoother. The Accord is just a loud car at highway speeds. I'm not a spirited driver so the tires perform fine for me. We rarely get snow so I can't comment on snow handling. At 6500 miles I can't see any wear. I did lose 4 MPG with the Pirellis. I think for the price they are very good tires.

Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 6 rated 88% while driving a Audi A4 Avant B9
Driving on mostly motorways for 20000 average miles
I fitted a set of 4 225 50 17 94Y On a 2023 Audi A4 Avant after removing the original pirelli blue tires that didn't ride smoothly. They are a great all-round tire in dry and wet low road noise on most surfaces and good ride comfort after 20,000 miles I've rotated the tires and think I could get another 10,000 miles as I've 5mm front and 3.7 mm rear I would recommend

Pirelli Ice Zero FR rated 89% while driving a Skoda octavia estate 4x4
Driving on a combination of roads for 1000 average miles
I live in Russia, Moscow, and it`s my second expirience on non-studded tires. Pirelli ICE ZERO FR is very good at russian winter. Not noise after using studded tires. Good grip on snow and wet.

Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance 2 rated 94% while driving a BMW 316
Driving on mostly motorways for 62000 easy going miles
I bought four GY EfficientGrip Performance 2 for a BMW 3 series Touring to replace Goodyear runflats. Have always tended to replace runflats with non-runflats at the first opportunity. These tires immediately drastically improved the comfort level, especially across ruts, patches, potholes and worn surfaces on UK roads. Lower road noise too.

My car has the softer SE-spec suspension and so it doesn't exactly corner that well. But with these tires, the wet cornering is very good, I've never felt it give me any sign it is starting to struggle with grip. They have made a soft car very driveable in the wet. Aquaplaning performance is particularly good.

BEST BIT for me is the wear resistance. Granted, I do 3000 miles a month down the length of the UK on motorways so clearly the wear on such drives is minimal. And also granted, the car doesn't have a lot of power. But with that said, I have done 62,000 miles on all four with occasional rotation of front to back etc and I still have 5.0mm left on three and 4.5mm on one.
Particularly impressive is that this level of wear resistance doesn't seem to come at the expense of wet or dry grip.

There won't even be any consideration when it comes to replacements. Four more of the same. Simples.

Michelin Pilot Sport 5 rated 97% while driving a Honda Accord
Driving on a combination of roads for 3000 spirited miles
Here comes a review for Asian market which specifically for Malaysia end-users.
Hands down the best tire that you can have. Besides from the price, everything was top notch and deliver one of the highest performance which for me is the best so far. Been fitted the tire for my 2015 Honda Accord 2.0 T2A, which I used Primacy 4 previously.

In conclusion, simply exceptionally good in both dry and wet conditions. With a really fast response to the steering wheel, great road feedback, very predictable and a really good handling overall. The tires just reached their 5000km milestone after just 6 weeks of installing. For a very spirited driving style and covering to almost all mix type of roads - consist of highways, urban/city, regional and old roads, I've been very satisfied with the tires that meet my needs as a sale engineer which need me to travel a lot to meet clients in different states and basically had the car as my 2nd home.

Right from the start, I definitely can feel the difference compared to the previous set. The tires response really well to the acceleration/gas pedal and braking. It does give me confidence to go through the roads really fast and trust it's braking power. From hitting 140km/h on average daily driving and up to 220-230km/h if the situation allow, the tires help me to swift between cars and deliver predictable + solid cornering at highspeed. Both in dry and wet conditions.

Stunning sidewall, high grip, low noise and I also noticed that it has a good treadwear/longetivity that compliment well with my high speed driving style and lots of deep braking. The tread still looks like new and significantly less wear on the surface. Coming from other brand of tire sales engineer that specifically target TBR (Truck Bus Radial) and LT (Light Truck), this review isn't a biased opinion but rather an honest one which Michelin Pilot Sport 5 did exceed all my expectations and overall improve/gave a whole new driving experience. A really worthy value for the money spent. Very recommended.

Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 6 rated 57% while driving a BMW X1 25D Xdrive
Driving on a combination of roads for 3100 spirited miles
I was initially interested in this tire from the reviews both from our man, and from other sources. I was initially pleased by the comfort and the grip in general but surprised by a behavior I noticed only on this tire: the load shift on a fast bend, especially if you touch the brakes, is so bad I need to correct on the steering, something that I never had to do on any other tire on this car, both runflat and not. Makes it feel like the car’s suspension is suddenly perished, this at 2,2bar (front) and 2,3 bar (rear). Things got better by raising the pressure significantly, now it’s at 2,5/2,7 and the tire feels much better, but still does that thing on fast bends, especially on a particular narrow bend downhill. I hate it and this alone would not make me choose this tire again, it never happened with other brand and tires and I had Conti Sport Contact 5, Falken (not UHP), Yokohama V105… i think it could be due to the rigidity of the sidewall, but go figure

Continental ExtremeContact DWS 06 PLUS rated 90% while driving a Honda Accord EX L V6
Driving on a combination of roads for 1500 spirited miles
I bit the bullet and made the jump from a life of budget and mid-range tires to a premium offering for the first time with these tires, and my initial impressions are great. Worth every cent, hands down.

When cruising around and taking it easy, the road noise of this tire is lower than I've experienced with any other tire I've run on two different cars. There certainly is some noise, but it's not loud and fades into the background. The tires also just ride quite smooth, I'm confident passengers would not know I have a performance oriented tire if I'm taking it easy.

Dry performance is impressive, especially with some very cold temperatures lately where I'm running these in Wisconsin. We had a day or two of -5F (-20C) temperatures, and these tires still grip well, launching well from a stop and inspiring confidence when being thrown through curves. Grip only goes up from here as temperatures rise, above freezing, I'm unable to kick in traction control when launching from a stop at all.

What really impressed me is that in wet conditions, and with light snow/slush on the road, the tires didn't seem to care. I hardly had to adjust my driving habits, and it was easy to tell if you started to approach the limit, but they still felt solid.

These tires did struggle a little bit with ice, but they were still significantly better than anything else I've run, and recovered from slides quickly. The slides were also very predictable.

Moving from some generic budget/mid-range tires to these, one thing I also noticed is that all my older ones started to feel less planted as you approach and exceed 100mph (160kph). These feel glued to the road even at these speeds, and I have even made an emergency swerve at this speed with zero hesitation, no loss of grip, and great precision. All in Mexico, and allegedly, of course.

If you make one modification to your car, and don't want to swap wheels for winter/summer, get yourself a set of tires like these. I don't feel like I'm making any compromises for any conditions, and the fact that Continental pulled that off amazes me.

Hankook Winter I cept RS3 rated 37% while driving a Volvo S80 T6
Driving on mostly town for 600 average miles
The Hankook tires are brand new, DOT 2024. I just put them on the car a month ago and I've done probably about 1000km with them, so I can't give proper feedback yet on how they handle and cope with snow. However, I can provide feedback on the noise levels. Do yoursleves a favor and DO NOT but that tire! The noise is pretty terrible. Imagine all wheel bearings have gone bad overnight. This is how bad it is. These are supposed to be premium tires, premium my a**. I have Kleber Krisalp HP3 on my other car and it is a far better tire for everyday use.

Hankook Kinergy 4S2 rated 90% while driving a Ford fusion
Driving on a combination of roads for 20000 spirited miles
I drove a Ford Fusion 40 miles to get from my small town of country roads all the way to the airport in 3-5 inches of fresh snow most of the way and I was complete shocked how well these ate the miles of snow like I never expected. Not only that, but they gave confidence at pretty high speeds I probably shouldn't have been driving. The area I drove that was deeper 5ish inches I thought for sure was likely going to get me stuck when I had to come to a full stop, but no, they did great and we made our flight.

Firestone RoadHawk rated 41% while driving a Alfa Romeo Giulia 2.2d rwd 180hp
Driving on a combination of roads for 20000 spirited miles
They are maybe a good choice for taxi drivers & in cities conditions. No good cornering feedback a 165/70/13 is more precise & direct, terrible at wet conditions the car goes to different directions at straight driving with 80 km/h. When they get older is like not having tires at all
